702 Appendix C Notes to Table C.1 The photocopy and instruments indexes are proxied using App. B tables in the following steps. 1. A photocopy index is proxied by aggregating all the products (excluding electronic computing machinery) in the office, computing, and accounting machinery industry. 2. An instruments index is proxied by generating a group of subindexes for each of the PPI product categories used in the NIPA to deflate instruments. Each subindex combines alternative indexes and PPIs from App. B tables with equal weights. The subindexes and their product components are as follows: Instruments: ( I) quarter-inch hand power driven drills; (2) half-inch hand power driven drills; (3) hand electric sanders; (4) transformer arc welders; Cutting tools and accessories, precision measurement tools: (1) free-standing power saws; (2) acetylene cutting tools; (3) power saw blades; (4) micrometer calipers; (5) drill bits; Pumps and compressors: (1) stationary air compressors; (2) centrifugal pumps; (3) compressors and compressor units, ammonia refrigerant; (4) compressors, all refrigerants except ammonia, open type, over 10 hp; (5) condensing units, air cooled, hermetic type; (6) condensing units, water cooled, open type; (7) condensing units, water cooled, hermetic type; Electrical direct measurement instruments: (I) tachometers; (2) electronic auto testers; (3) panel type ammeters; Metal commercial furniture: used the entire industry of furniture and fixtures from App. B. Small electrical appliances: (1) automatic coffee makers; (2) vacuum cleaners; (3) microwave ovens. 3. The instrument index is weighted with the photocopy index using Tomqvist NIPA nominal investment share. Notes to Table C.2 The special industry machinery index is proxied by taking the industry group for metalworking machinery and service industry machinery from App. B and aggregating the two together with equal weights. Notes to Table C.3 The trucks, buses, and truck trailers index is generated from an unweighted average of the following indexes from App. B: (I) autos; (2) diesel engines, except automotive. Notes to Table C.4 The ships and boats index is generated by first creating six subgroups of indexes, which are then aggregated with 1967 NIPA weights. The group indexes and the product indexes that compose them are as follows: Fabricated metal products (App. B); Pumps, compressors, and general purpose machinery and equipment: (1) stationary air compressors; (2) centrifugal pumps; (3) compressors and compressor units, ammonia refrigerant; (4) compressors, all refrigerants except ammonia, open type, over 10 hp; (5) condensing units, air cooled, hermetic type; (6) condensing units, water cooled, open type; (7) condensing units, water cooled, hermetic type; (8) fire extinguishers; Steam and hot water equipment: (1) gas hot water heaters; (2) water storage tank; (3) brass gate valves; (4) PVC piping; (5) radiator and convectors; (6) electric hot water heaters; Electrical machinery and equipment, selected items:

703 Appendix C (1) panel-type ammeters; (2) fractional horsepower electric motors; (3) voltage regulators; (4) fusible-type panel boards; (5) circuit breaker-type panelboards; (6) indoor safety switches; (7) circuit breakers; (8) outdoor power switches; Engines and turbines: (1) gasoline engines; (2) outboard motors; Diesel engines, except automotive. Notes to Table C.5 The other equipment index is created by aggregating, using NIPA 1967 weights, the following indexes: (1) fluorescent light fixtures; (2) furniture and fixtures (App. B); (3) autos; (4) batteries; (5) fire extinguishers; (6) garden tractors. Notes to Table C.6 The mining and oilfield machinery index is proxied by the construction machinery index from App. B.
