It provides the basis for sustained economic growth and full participation in nation building. The record of the last century worldwide shows that education is at the heart of any successful enduring national transformation. SIL has served the Philippines for 50 years providing tools for education and development among the cultural communities. SIL members arc involved in language research, while facilitating community-based literacy education, recording oral heritage, developing dictionaries and translating literature of high moral value, including portions of the Holy Scriptures. Members of minority groups from the Batancs in the north to the Sarna archipelago in the south have benefited from SIL's efforts in our land. At the SO'h Golden Jubilee Anniversary of SIL Philippines, the Depanment of Education extends its appreciation and congratulations to the members of SIL for their dedication and commiuncnt to provide access ro literacy and literature to the indigenous culrural communities. SIL seeks not only to serve but to empower Filipinos to take leadership in such endeavors in their own communities and throughout Asia. SIL deserves recognition and praise for the quality of irs productivity - some 3500 titles of linguistic research and vernacular materials pruvided for and about the language commwliries of our counuy. Our linguistic variety is an important pact of the culrural beauty and diversity that uni4uely enrich the Philippines.?..1. "...-L EDILDERTO C. DE JESUS Secretary
