II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Causative Verbs (5-6 minutes) General Description: Causative verbs indicate that a person or thing causes another action to happen. The three patterns in using causative verbs are as follows: 1. With to (help, allow, motivate, get, make, convince, hire, assist, encourage, permit, employ and force) Subject + Verb + Object + Verb to (Object) Ex. The salesman encouraged his client to have a lunch meeting with him. 2. Without to (have, make, and let) Subject + Verb + Object + Verb (Object) Ex. I let her host the gathering. 3. With that (insist, suggest, recommend, ask, require, request, and demand) Subject + Verb + that Object + Verb Ex. I suggested that Laura assist the customers. Remember: The causative verbs that used the pattern without to and with that are followed by a noun/pronoun and the base form of the verb.
