CELEBRATE! TRADITION THEATRE GUIDE 2017
A NOTE FROM OUR PRODUCER CARRYING ON THE TRADITION OF BROADWAY MUSICALS The Welk Resort Theatre continues its tradition of quality, professional and affordable theatre for 2017 with something for everyone! While we will always present family classics and traditional Broadway musicals, we are proud to also present one contemporary and edgy musical each season. As our audience continues to grow and expand, we are happy to provide different styles of musical theatre and variety shows to please all palates! We continue to use live musicians in the pit (rather than tracked music) and professional actors from all over the country and are proud of our theatrical elements such as beautiful sets and costumes. This year we invite you to join us as season subscriber. By purchasing at least three of our Welk produced musicals, you will a receive a discount. Purchase all four and receive an added discount. As always, subscriber tickets go on sale before individual shows are made available to the public, so you are always guaranteed the best seating. We thank you for attending over the past 35 years. We look forward to continuing our commitment to being the finest theatre that Southern California has to offer! Joshua Carr, Producer Theatre Manager

By FRED EBB, JOHN KANDER, TERRENCE MCNALLY, MANUEL PUIG For our contemporary show of 2017 we have chosen the brilliant musical team of Kander and Ebb with KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN. It revamps a harrowing tale of persecution into a dazzling spectacle that juxtaposes gritty realities with liberating fantasies. Cellmates in a Latin American prison, Valentin is a tough revolutionary undergoing torture and Molina is an unabashed gay man serving eight years. Molina shares his fantasies about an actress, Aurora (originated on Broadway by Chita Rivera) with Valentin. One of her roles is a spider woman who kills with a kiss. WINNER! 1993 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score. Not suitable for ages 17 and under. Rated PG-17 SEPTEMBER 1 OCTOBER 22, 2017
