The court judgements have been extremely severe -- exceeding a million dollars! Note that ALL songs by both Neil Diamond and by Bob Dylan are now SESAC copyrights, of what the record label may show. We cannot guarantee we can alert you to Recommended songs licensed by SESAC, since music publishing is usually not indicated on the tracks we receive nowadays -- so if you don t have a SESAC license, PLEASE do the necessary research to make sure no SESAC licensing is involved, for ALL your adds! To obtain Jim Brickman singles, or to get a letter from Brickman waiving a SESAC license for songs on which he is the composer, in order to play his songs, call Brickman Music: 216/378-3624; FAX 216/378-7198. Additionally, Irving Azoff s Global Music Rights is using SESAC strategy in licensing music -- Smokey Robinson, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, and are among its many represented songwriters, with more to come. A temporary license is available, per the RMLC; you face million-dollar copyright violation lawsuits for playing their contracted songwriters songs if you don t have one. See: www.globalmusicrights.com. You can also check the latest list of songwriters ( clients ) they claim to represent there, too.

The first is a new Christmas release, and heaven knows why the best AC Christmas song of the season is arriving almost too late to give it any exposure! It should have been released weeks ago. The AC core female audience still enjoys REO Speedwagon s signature sound -- and here they have released, on Rhino Records,. If it weren t just a bit too obvious that this is a Christmas song, we might consider running it a ways into the New Year; but it obvious, so we don t recommend that. But -- although we previously mentioned that you could at this point play any X-1/2 Postive testing borderline new Christmas release between now and Christmas -- only songs that test Recommended would have our blessing to go into any permanent Christmas Hit library you maintain. This is one of only two of those this year. The other Recommended track is a song we first tested in September, and have periodically re-tested since then. It seems now to have benefited by sufficient exposure elsewhere, and finally the AC core female listener looks forward to hearing the whole song through to the finish. That gives it a Recommended score, and we suggest adding it to your playlist now. It is actually the first song by Sam Smith to reach a Recommended score --, on the Capitol label. And with that, we conclude publication of the Music Letter for the year 2017. We ll be taking two weeks off, and then we ll return to publication with Volume 35, Number 1, dated January 8 15, which will be sent to you on As mentioned previously, we use double issue dating so that, if you keep an archive of all your issues of the Music Letter, you ll be able to tell later on that you don t have any gaps. But each issue, even if it carries more than one date, counts as only issue on your subscription!
