Signum BlackHive Generation II Broadcast Production System and video server The new system generation signum.blackhive BlackHive is supporting SD-format (16:9 and 4:3) as well as HDHD formats (720p, 1080i and 1080p). ). A flexible switch from one format to a different one is possible on the fly during operation. Additionally there is an automatic conversion of images to any format to avoid using the wrong image formatt for broadcast. Via a GB Ethernet based network all standard PCs and newsroom systems e. g. SigiStudio MediAsset, which are already available and in use can connect to the BlackHive, thus enabling full file--based preparation and playout of media like stills, sti clips and sequences. All systems, which are used for automated broadcast, can be connected to the same network to simplify setup and communication for both production and postproduction. Each output channel has an integrated linear mixing module. The Mix/Wipe module enables all fading effects as well as key functions between images, videos and live channels. Via an integrated audio support it is possible to fade over also audio without having the need of an external audio-mixer. GPI-modes, fully automated rundown lists and communication interfaces like MOS-Server MOS or device driver for various newsroom systems (Open Media, INEWS, etc.) are supported as well. well SIGNUM Bildtechnik GmbH Ruedesheimer desheimer Str. 21 80868 Munich Germany +49 (0) 89-547063-0 0 www.signumbt.com

APPLICATIONS signum.blackhive in the newsroom: signum.blackhive is a flexible and scalable product, which can be used for various different purposes The signum.blackhive is largely used in video news production centers. Many different news-room around news-productions, automation, ingest-center and playout-center. systems are certified in the use in conjunction with the signum.blackhive product-suite. Essential to news productions is the immediate availability of received news to present on air. Videos and images of any format can be grouped into playlists, modified where necessary and then handed over to playout. Playlist may even be changed during playout. Various transition effects are available on the BlackHive amongst them also free definable in order to save extra equipment like an external Video-mixing device. All media which is received e.g. via the full automatic SigiStudio.AutoimportServer can be stored on the Signum.BlackHive as well in order to speed up the working process. During the preparation of the playlists, it will then be decided which of the media is going to be used. Using the SigiStudio http-server in conjunction with the BlackHive it is possible to prepare news productions at any time from any place around the world using just a standard web-browser. The full feature set is available including all preview functions for running the production. Via the standardized MOS Interface the signum.blackhive can be connected to any newsroom system like Openmedia, inews, etc. Playout can be performed via automation or in addition via local control of the playout server. The large local storage of the signum.blackhive allows the storage of a large quantity of videos, clips, images at any format, which can be used single or multiple times. signum.blackhive Generation II 5 p a g e
APPLICATIONS signum.blackhive with Multi-Operation Use: During preparation for news productions, multiple operators may use the BlackHive simultaneously in order to prepare the news productions in the most efficient way. Playlist may be prepared in an offline or online mode. Prepared offline playlists are to be transferred to the BlackHive for the immediate playout. All Signum products benefit from its full scalability. Starting from small applications, where one operator is managing the full news-production, up to very large applications, where a large team of operators and journalists are working on the productions the Signum.BlackHive managed via the SigiStudio management for newsroom applications is the ideal product. Dedicated operators may produce their individual productions like news, weather, sports, etc. which are then used in a chain during the production. The studio-director or operator in charge may then decide which playlist(s) will be used for playout including allocation to playout channels. He is also allowed to allocate rights and resources like the video to various users. Vice versa an operator may control many different signum.blackhive systems within the same or even across different networks including full remote management and control. Via SigiStudio all media, which are stored in archives, can be easily accessed and a direct transfer of the files from the archive to the local BlackHive storage is enabled via drag and drop. Many different archives can be used at the same time using different operating and storage systems. 6 p a g e signum.blackhive Generation II
APPLICATIONS signum.blackhive in a Hot Standby Configuration: This example presents a system with highest protection mechanisms. In case the Master Node fails, all video playout continue on the hot-standby. For consistency between both nodes, the signum.blackhive.cluster option is required. This application can be used in combination with various Newsroom systems available on the market. signum.blackhive provides highest redundancy to avoid any failures during standard playout operation. In case there is even higher availability requirement e.g. protection against power failure of an entire studio, a hot-standby configuration is available via the signum.blackhive.cluster module. This module assists the full parallel redundant operation of 2 or more BlackHive systems in a 1:1 hot-standby configuration, where one system is the master and the other one the hot-stand-by. In case of a failure of the master, all operation can immediately proceed by the hot-standby, without any limitations. A database is managing permanently consistency between both systems. This feature can be combined with any newsroom system available on the market. Beyond the full redundancy hot-standby configuration, it is also possible to manage just a dedicated number of video channels for master/hotstandby-configuration saving costs to the operator. signum.blackhive Generation II 7 p a g e
