Biographical Sketch Olav Elling Eidbo (1918 1993) was a professor of music at Texas Western College (later UTEP) and director of the Texas Western Collegiate Chorale. He was born in Arnegard, North Dakota and graduated with a B.A. from Concordia College in 1940. During WWII Dr. Eidbo took courses in advanced German and Norwegian at the University of Wisconsin Madison as part of the military s Army Specialized Training Program. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 1946 and later earned a master s degree from Texas Western College in 1952 and a doctorate from the University of North Dakota in 1956. Prior to moving to El Paso, Dr. Eidbo worked as a music teacher in Minnesota. He worked at UTEP as an instructor in the Music Department from 1950 until his retirement in 1983. Dr. Eidbo was also active in El Paso s Norwegian community and was a member of the Sol Hjem Chapter of the Norwegian Society of Texas. He was married to Wanda Eidbo (1919 2001), a teacher in the El Paso Independent School District and longtime organist at St. Paul s Lutheran Church, and had a son, Rolf Eidbo. Series Description or Arrangement Collection was left in the order it was found in Special Collections. Scope and Content Notes The Olav E. Eidbo papers date 1940 1985, bulk 1962 1969. The collection was left in the order it was found in Special Collections. Types of records include sheet music, photographs, programs, publications, and other materials. The papers help document Dr. Eidbo s activities and career at Texas Western College (later UTEP). Provenance Statement Unknown. Restrictions No deed of gift; no rights to materials.
