Mission & Areas Served Statements Mission Statement The Mission Statement for Fine Arts Chorale is Enriching the life of our community through great choral music. This mission is met through: Performance of choral literature that is not commonly heard in Kansas City;High performance values and expectations of Chorale members;focus on classical choral music from the Renaissance period through contemporary compositions;collaborations with other excellent musicians, choral groups and artists;brilliant programming;outreach in community concerts to encourage young people to become participants in music making. Audiences who attend Fine Arts Chorale concerts will find their taste in music expanded and their expectations for high quality performances enhanced. Background Statement FineArts Chorale is one of the most enduring choirs in Kansas City history, and recently celebrated 40 years of making great music. Since 1972, we have enriched the community with great choral music and provided choral education and opportunities for singers who share a love of and commitment to great choral music. Although great historical choral literature distinguishes Fine Arts Chorale's repertoire, we constantly add to the literature by commissioning and performing new works by local composers. Our collaborations have a thinking outside the box quality that includes concerts for families with young children, and with youth choir organizations. Through our outreach to other organizations, Fine Arts Chorale continues to find and fill an important niche in the Kansas City musical community. Dr. Terri Teal, Music Director since 1992, is one of the finest choral conductors (and one of the few female conductors) in the area. She creates programs of wonderful variety, beauty and challenge, and encourages singers to continue developing their personal artistic skills. Through collaboration and inclusiveness, we hope to pass our love of choral singing to others. Impact Statement For the 2012-2013 season, Fine Arts Chorale presented four concerts with the theme "Touchstones," celebrating 40 years of making great music. In October, with the Plaza Library, we presented Howl-o-Ween Laughter," in collaboration with library staff. This concert was a great success with an audience of over 150 kids and families. For this one concert, singers wear silly costumes and sing silly songs, with a few classical greats thrown in. This particular concert featured a book, a Halloween alphabet, read by one of the librarians. Furthering the enjoyment was a milk and cookies reception provided by the Fine Arts Chorale Board of Directors. Holiday Touchstones" featured organist Jan Kraybill, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. This was our third collaboration and choral and organ arrangements of ancient carols by different composers. This programming has been hailed as one of the most enjoyable and creative Christmas programs in the city. A second performance featured organist Geoffrey Wilcken at First United Methodist of Lawrence, Kansas. In February, Fine Arts Chorale hosted two romantic evenings of great food and song titled Latin Lovers, featuring guitarist Beau Bledsoe and flamenco dancer Zhanna Saparova. This elegant buffet supper and entertainment package, held at Californos Westport, featured songs from Spain and South America, and tango and flamenco by Bledsoe and Saparova. An elegant champagne toast capped off the evening. In April, Fine Arts Chorale hosted a celebration of 40 years of making great music, "Choral Cornerstones," with guest conductors Arnold Epley, Mark Ball, John Schaefer, Matthew Christopher Shepard and Geoffrey Wilcken, all of whom have conducted and/or been associated with the organization in the past. Fine Arts Chorale continues to reach out, establishing ties and connections within and without the Kansas City arts community. Needs Statement BOARD: We seek board members who love the musical arts and translate that love into action. FUNDING: We seek funding to support our programs. VOLUNTEERS: To assist with ushering at programs, setting up for receptions. CONNECTIONS: We seek to create more connections within the business community. SINGERS: We seek singers to join us in our mission of enriching the life of our community through great choral music. 2

CEO/Executive Director/Board Chair Statement Fine Arts Chorale has made great strides in fulfilling our mission of enriching the Kansas City community through great choral music. The last season saw dramatic increases in audience size. We continue to face economic challenges, as do all arts organizations, but the Board of Directors and singers continue to believe that Fine Arts Chorale concerts are one of the best entertainment values in the city! From the delightful music to the warm receptions provided by our wonderful sponsors, a Fine Arts Chorale concert is a feast for the senses. We look forward to continuing our mission in the community for many years to come!
