Greetings!!! Thank you for choosing to participate in the Concert Band portion of the 2018 Jazz Unlimited Festival, which will be held on the Columbia Basin College campus on Friday, April 13 th. ADMISSIONS/GUEST ARTIST: Admission to all daytime events is free to everyone. Our guest artists this year is jazz trombonist, Jim Pugh. Free tickets to the concert will be provided for all jazz band participants based on the number of students you indicated on application forms, plus director(s). The price for additional concert band participants is $5, if you did not purchase the ticket upgrade with your application. Tickets may be picked up at the registration desk when you check in on Friday. All remaining student tickets (concert band and jazz) will be held in will-call for you at the Kennewick High School Auditorium. The cost for nonparticipants is $10 for students and seniors, and $15 for general admission. Please relay this information to any parents traveling with your group. Please refer to the enclosed stage diagram of the CBC Theatre. We are setting up in front of the stage at the Gjerde Center which will allow a bit more latitude with your set-up. If you have a group in the Theatre, pay close attention to the dimensions. You may find that your band will have to use a deeper arrangement than they are used to. We ask that you remind your students that some college classes are still in session and to not be disruptive. Buses must be parked in designated areas north of the Gjerde Center and west of the Gym. The best way to bring your busses onto campus from 20th street is to continue north to the light at Argent Street and turn left. Turn left again into the main campus entrance. Look for the large brick CBC entrance facades. Please see the map of CBC campus enclosed. Also, if you are heading north on Highway 395 (coming from Kennewick over the blue bridge), there is an Argent Street exit off of the freeway now. Turn right onto Argent, and the campus exit will be approximately one half mile to your right. You may still enter campus using the South Campus Loop (right across from the Red Lion Inn), if you prefer. If you have any questions with regard to our festival rules they can still be found online by clicking on Festival Applications in the website. This will take you to the application forms that you originally downloaded. Equipment Provided: Conductor s Podium, Stands, Chairs, Timpani, Bass Drum, Suspended Cymbal, Gong, Chimes, Bells, Xylophone, Vibraphone, Marimba, Piano. We do not provide: snare drums or crash cymbals 1 Concert Band Packet
This will be our final mailing before the festival. Please review all enclosed information carefully. There is also a schedule enclosed. Please double-check this for your performance times. We tried to meet all schedule requests made under Special Requests/Comments on your applications, as we put the schedule together. If you have a conflict with your time, we ask that you contact another director. Perhaps one may be willing to switch times with you. Please notify me regarding the switch. Beyond this, there is not much we can do. If you have any questions or concerns, don t hesitate to call. We look forward to seeing you and listening to your performance on April 14! GUIDELINES OF CONDUCT: CONCERT BANDS Although we do run a competitive festival, we make it our mission here at CBC to create an atmosphere that is overwhelmingly positive. This mission has been taken to heart by all those involved in the running of this festival. We require your assistance in accomplishing this mission. Please make each of your students aware of the following guidelines of conduct, and ask for their commitment in upholding them as they participate in our festival. You will be asked at registration whether this has been done or not! 1. Be kind and positive with everyone you encounter during the day! Say positive things to other choirs and other directors! Complement one another, smile and say "Thank you" when you re complimented. Be courteous to the guides, stage crew, and others who are providing this festival for you. Thank them!! Make a new friend, not a new enemy! Say nice things to even your division rival. When everyone s music is better, everyone wins! 2. Provide other choirs with the proper performance environment, be non-disruptive. If you want to sing for a good audience then be a good audience for someone else. On Concert Band day, wait until the end of the song to give thunderous applause, especially if the piece has several movements. Please, no screaming, yelling, or whistling. Save your talking until the end of the song as well. Wait patiently outside until the Door Monitor lets you in. Keep the volume level down in the Gjerde Atrium while choirs perform inside Gjerde Center. 3. Treat the facility and grounds with respect follow common sense safety rules no food or drink in the performance sites Please, no rehearsing in breezeways, under catwalks, etc. I take this positive crusade very seriously, as do the students who are running this festival. We trust that you will too! Groups that have come to our festival and demonstrated a negative, destructive attitude toward other participants, festival workers or the facility; have simply not been allowed to return! I thank you for helping us create a positive environment! 3 Concert Band Packet
