SPECIAL SCREENING DEAD SOULS BY WANG BING In Gansu Province, northwest China, lie the remains of countless prisoners abandoned in the Gobi Desert sixty years ago. Designated as ultrarightists in the Communist Party s Anti-Rightist campaign of 1957, they starved to death in the Jiabiangou and Mingshui reeducation camps. The film invites us to meet the survivors of the camps to find out firsthand who these persons were, the hardships they were forced to endure and what became their destiny. DIRECTORS FORTNIGHT SAMOUNI ROAD BY STEFANO SAVONA In the rural outskirts of Gaza City a small community of farmers, the Samouni extended family, is about to celebrate a wedding. It s going to be the first celebration since the last war. Amal, Fuad, their brothers and their cousins have lost their parents, their houses and their olive trees. The neighborhood where they live is being rebuilt. As they replant trees and plow fields, they face their most difficult task: piecing together their own memory. Through these young survivors recollections, Samouni Road conveys a deep, multifaceted portrait of a family before, during and after the tragic event that changed its life forever. MARKET SCREENINGS TOUCH ME NOT BY ADINA PINTILIE Tell me how you loved me, so I understand how to love. Together, a filmmaker and her characters venture into a personal research about intimacy. On the fluid border between reality and fiction, TOUCH ME NOT follows the emotional journeys of Laura, Tomas and Christian, offering a deeply empathic insight into their lives. Craving for intimacy yet also deeply afraid of it, they work to overcome old patterns, defense mechanisms and taboos, to cut the cord and finally be free. TOUCH ME NOT looks at how we can find intimacy in the most unexpected ways, at how to love another without losing ourselves.
