Sensor Actuator Interface Passive Technical information on initiator lines SAI M distributors M8 lines Twin cables These distributors are available in - and -pole versions. In the -pole distributors pin is omitted to reduce the cost. The pins are assigned as follows: Pin = + Pin = NCC Pin = Pin = NOC Pin = PE If a -pole SAI distributor is used but the installation includes NCCs, the line used must have a jumper between pins and in the socket. When using such a line, it is not advisable to connect changeover contacts because these would be shortcircuited. Initiator lines with LEDs Yellow and green LEDs are always used. The green LED indicates the status and the yellow the presence of the voltage supply. Red LEDs are hardly ever used for this purpose any more. Plug-in connectors for custom assembly These plugs are available in many different versions ex stock. As a rule, the straight outlet -pole is used. Two different locking systems are available for M8 lines: The screw mechanism similar to the technology for M lines. The advantage is that the lines are securely fixed, but the disadvantage is that installation with the knurled nut takes somewhat longer. The clip mechanism results in a quick connection because the knurled nut is omitted. The disadvantage is that the plug can be accidentally disconnected because the clip fitting is less secure. M8 lines are available in - and -pole versions only. Please remember that the -pole lines are not compatible with -pole lines. Use of M8 distributors Owing to their compact dimensions, M8 distributors offer a number of advantages. However, please take the following aspects into account: There is no standardised PE for M8 plug-in connectors. Therefore, special precautions must be taking when using actuators with PE in the machine. The - and -pole M8 plug-in connectors are not compatible with each other. In terms of applications, the -pole M8 corresponds to the -pole M distributor. We recommend using the Weidmüller SAI-Combi when using M8 distributors and active distributors. There is always the option of attaching two sensor lines to one M plug at the distributor. However, for reasons of costs, logistics and clarity, this is not to be preferred. Nevertheless, Weidmüller can supply components for such connections although this option is rather the exception in machinery design. -pole versions On the SAI distributor the -pole socket has pins,, and. Many details of these modules were adapted in such a way that they can still be used wherever standard modules were used in the past, but the individual solutions have now become simpler: Markers: Markers can no longer be prepared with a labelling system. It is therefore easier to order markers with the necessary printing directly from Weidmüller. The markers in the established MultiCard format are then printed with our PrintJet marking system. One-way disconnector: Up until now it was usual to achieve electrical isolation devised by Weidmüller by way of jumpers. To reduce costs, these jumpers have been replaced by solder bridges. These are simply cut to provide electrical isolation. No protective caps: Normally, Weidmüller M distributors are always supplied with two protective caps. These were not always required and so they have been omitted. Standard cable gland: The vibration-resistant black screw cable gland has been replaced by a standard IP 68 cable gland. These cost-cutting measures result in yet more applications for Weidmüller SAI distributors. Greater reliability than with comparable systems Special threaded ring increases durability Plastic threaded rings are nothing new. However, the problem in the past was that the threaded rings formed part of the housing and were therefore made from the same plastic. Weidmüller has once again pioneered a new and better solution. M FIXCON FIXCON SAI distributors and cables, with rapid-connection technology Time is money! The new technology is FIXCON. Whereas the standard M system requires the sleeves to be laboriously screwed on and that operation is hindered by the vibration guard, FIXCON works with one click, just like those well-known garden hose systems. The audible locking function guarantees a safe and reliable connection as well as a good seal. SAI distributors with FIXCON plug FIXCON is currently supplied by Weidmüller and five other international companies FIXCON M connections provide sufficient space for using T-pieces. The SAI module is slimmer and now only mm wide. The new SAI-FIXCON distributors can be used with M plug-in connectors but also with the new FIXCON plug-in connectors. The SAI distributors are available in fixed cable, hood, bayonet connection and M versions. M FIXCON metal-plated distributors Metal-plated distributors Distributors with conductive surfaces are being increasingly specified and used in order to rule out electrostatic discharges and electromagnetic influences in highly sensitive production areas and plants. The metal plating to the distributor surface achieves two things: firstly, it increases the resistance to, for example, chemicals, and secondly, it makes the surface conductive. Metal-plated distributors can therefore provide quick and easy solutions complying with ESD and EMC requirements. Wherever suitable attenuation and a robust connection between shielding and metal plating is essential, the all-metal distributors are the best choice. However, in many other cases metal-plated distributors have proved very worthwhile; they represent a less expensive alternative. The Weidmüller range offers users two solutions for meeting ESD and EMC requirements: the tried-and tested all-metal distributors and the metal-plated plastic distributors..9
