2/6 PEM1126ENG 2010-05 GENERAL INFORMATION - Check that the kit is suitable for the cable type. - Check the materials listed in the bill of materials for completeness. - Read the installation instructions carefully before starting the installation. - Install carefully and make sure the materials are clean during the installation. - Clean the working place after the installation. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR HEAT SHRINKING - Please note that in some working places a hot work permit is needed. - Use a propane burner with a flame length of approx. 20-30 cm. Do not use too large or sharp flame. - Move the flame all around the cable on the shrinking direction. Move the flame continuously to avoid overheating. - Make sure that the ventilation is good and there are no flammable materials around. - Clean the cable surfaces before shrinking. - When shrinking, always follow the installation instructions and the relevant sequence to avoid trapped air. - Check that the tube has shrunk evenly around the cable before you continue shrinking. - If the tube turns around at the end of shrinking, straighten the tube by directing the flame inside the tube from the opposite direction. - After shrinking the tubes should be smooth and even following the shape inside. Put the short sealing tube on the cable. Wrap a few layers of PVC-tape over the cable outer jacket so that dimension A remains to the cable end. Peel the cable outer jacket from the PVC-tape to the cable end (dimension A). Roughen the armour for 50 mm from the PVC-tape with grinding paper or steel brush and clean it. Remove the armour up to 40 mm from the PVC-tape. Roughen the lead sheath according to dimension C in table 1 with grinding paper and clean it. Remove the Lead sheath leaving length C from the armour. Remove the belt insulation up to 10 mm from the lead sheath. Use specified waxed cord to keep the remaining belt insulation in place when removing the paper. Cu -wire Constant force spring Tinning area OR 2. Fix the tinned copper braid on the lead sheath with constant force spring or solder. Constant force spring: Turn first one turn of constant force spring on the copper braid. Fold then the tail of the braid over the constant force spring and finish the tightening of the spring. Tighten the spring by hand and wrap some pvc -tape over it to keep it tight. Fix the braid to the armour with two rounds of tinned copper wire. Tie also the braid against the outer sheet with the wire.

Use the tinned copper sleeves if they fit. If the conductor size is smaller than the minimum accepted conductor size for lug, use the filler pieces included in the kit inside of the lug. (70mm2). Shrink the short tubes over lugs. 8. The termination is now ready. Let the termination to cool down before applying any mechanical load.
