Deno s Dialogue May has been a busy month for me. I enjoy attending the San Antonio Parrot Head Survive event. I enjoy the various things they have including painting my toe nails for charity. They came to Port A, stayed at our Island Hotel (where we have our monthly meetings). Because of the Survive event we were able to swing having our meetings at the Hotel. Many of the San Antonio club stay at the hotel. They make arrangements to have music at Shorty's bar on Thursday night and invited our club to participate. A good time was had by all that attended. San Antonio brought about 110 people down here to help Port A (which many of them have come for many years) get back on their feet. The poker run that they had going to various bars and restaurants also helped other places. Hopefully, as Parrot Heads we may be able to solicit something for our fall event. Many San Antonio friends will be at our Wings event too. I do like to thank them and we are able to piggy back on all the nice things they do to help our community. If you see or know any of the attendees, thank them. They left a lot of money and good will here. For the last two months Don and Cindy Muir (club members) also had two house concerts at their new "retirement home" I attended both concerts and the musicians were different but I enjoyed both concerts. Cindy is part of the Trop Rock music supporters and she loves to support Trop Rock live music. I think both concerts were successful. If you enjoy live music and like to listen to artists they are fun. We had good food too! As a reminder to all, there is usually a suggested donation one should give to support the musicians. We are a desired location but there is a cost to get here. And if you commit to attend, it is a commitment. The concerts usually only have a limited number of seats and so if you commit and cannot attend, you should either pay and/or let the person who is conducting the event know that you can not make it. If it is early enough, sometimes a replacement person can be found. With a small crowd, the gift for the musician and the food can matter. All members should keep that in mind. Summer is fast approaching and we hope to have a decent tourist turnout even there are not a lot of places to stay. Many members are still out of their home and some are still going to be out for a while. We hope that we all can get home soon. It is hard to keep a positive attitude when you are not at home so be supportive of our fellow members. Keep your Fins up! Deno "Moon Dog" Fabrie, President

Trop Talk With Cindy Muir THE VALUE OF A TROP ROCK HOUSE CONCERT EXPERIENCE So far, "Muirs' Trop Rock Manor Beachside" has hosted two Trop Rock House Concerts. Were you one of the guests? We had some great music, super food, and heard wonderful stories from the musicians about their songs and their lives. Dennis Davis & Paul Rousch Let me tell you what prompted Don and myself to decide to host Trop Rock musicians periodically in our Port Aransas home. I'm very involved in the Trop Rock music world and started interviewing these folks back in 2011, when I wrote a recurring column for Gulfscapes magazine. I found that this a music genre filled with wonderful people who help each other, rather than focus on jealousies and clawing their way "to the top," as in some other music genres. Don Middlebrook is a Trop Rock musician from Michigan who has won numerous Trop Rock Music Association awards. He comes to Texas once a year and 3-4 years ago, he wanted to secure a gig in Port Aransas. I and another highly connected person in the Trop Rock world did our best to find him a one-night job among the live music venues in town. We were unsuccessful - no one here really knew Don. I knew then that a dedicated music venue for Trop Rock musicians was needed in Port A. I also desire for the PHOPA members to be exposed to more of this type of music. Have you been to Meeting of the Minds in Key West or were you one of the dozen or so PHOPA members at Pardi Gras last January in New Orleans? If so, you know there are so many opportunities to hear great music at those venues. Why not bring it to Port A when we can?
The musicians, themselves, also know about Port Aransas. They want to come if they're touring in Texas from out of state and experience what we know is a wonderful, laid-back beach environment. They also want to experience Shorty's! We currently do not have another House Concert scheduled at this time, but I'm sure we'll have another before the year is over. Won't you come and enjoy some musical minutes? They are listening events, but you don't have to sit for the entire time the music is playing... get up and gaze down at our pond in the back of the house or take a break however you'd like. We eat at a certain time and the PHOPA members sure know how to bring yummy dishes! We are also donating an amount equal to 10% of the money the musician is given and have "passed the hat" for a local charity. So far, we raised $118 for the ARK and $218 for the Port A Food Pantry. "Party With a Purpose" continues at our House Concerts! I hope you'll look for the next flier regarding an upcoming House Concert and attend. Music enriches our lives and this music genre is one of the best! Kitty Steadman & Donny Brewer Rob Mehl Cory Young & Eric Erdman The Detentions
