Sectin 1 - Intrductin General The KM Cnfiguratin utility is a web based tl that allws system administratrs t define custm displays' setup and create a custm KM cnfiguratin file. The KM cnfiguratin file (kmc extensin) will later be laded t a KM that will be cnfigured accrdingly. There are many cases where a single cmputer user needs t wrk simultaneusly with few cmputers. In sme cases users may have multiple displays attached t each f these multiple cmputers. The challenge is hw a single user can interact with multiple cmputers having multiple displays. KVMs wuld nt d a gd jb fr these users as they were designed t switch displays as well. KM switch is a device that switches a single set f keybard and muse between multiple cmputers. KM switch is essentially a KVM switch withut the vide switching - all displays are cntinuusly cnnected t their cmputers. Using KM Cnfiguratin Utility administratrs can define any number f displays cnnected t each cmputer with different r identical sizes and screen reslutins. The displays can be deplyed in any physical layut. The KM Cnfiguratin Utility als allws remval f unneeded bridges between displays. Befre Yu Begin The KM Cnfiguratin Utility can be accessed via web using administratr lgin. 1.1. Supprted Brwsers: Ggle Chrme 20.x r abve Micrsft Internet Explrer Firefx 1.2. Supprted Operating Systems: Windws XP All versins Windws Vista All versins Windws 7 All versins A KM cnfiguratin file is based n the number f cmputers that will be cnnected t the KM and the number f displays each cmputer will have cnnected t it. Make sure yu knw the sizes and native display reslutin f all displays cnnected t all cmputers that will eventually be cnnected t that KM switch. Accurate data entry is essential t enable prper user experience with the KM switch. 8

Sectin 2 - Cnfiguratin Step 1 Create a new Prject Each KM cnfiguratin file is called a KM Cnfiguratin Prject. Fr every setup yu will be required t create a new prject. At any pint during the wizard the administratr can click Back and return t the previus stage. Click n New Prject Prduct Mdel The prduct mdel can be fund n the back sticker f the KM switch. Each KM prt can supprt up t 4 cnnected displays. Muse Speed This is the default muse cursr speed fr all systems. Nte that changes in the muse speed at each cmputer will nt affect the resulted KM muse speed. If value is unknwn leave 5 (default) and try it. Muse Acceleratin Set the muse cursr acceleratin value (the rate at which cursr speed is increasing). Nte that changes in the muse acceleratin at each cmputer will nt affect the resulted KM muse acceleratin. If value is unknwn leave 5 (default) and try it. Number f Cmputers The ttal numbers f cmputers that will be cnnected t the KM switch fr this cnfiguratin. Click Next Step nce dne entering data. Figure 1 Launching a new KM Cnfiguratin Prject Step 2 Enter Prject Details Please enter the requested infrmatin in the fllwing manner: Prject Name The name can be a cmbinatin f English characters and numbers. It is advised t use a name that will reflect the cnfiguratin fr example: Dealer 3 5 displays, Generic Wrkstatin 7. The prject name can be read frm the KM after lading. 9

Sectin 2 - Cnfiguratin Once selecting the number f displays yu will be able t enter the size and native reslutin fr every display. Nte: If a display is set t Prtrait rientatin the Native reslutin shuld be entered accrdingly. Fr example, fr a display with a native display reslutin f 1680x1050 which is used in Prtrait please enter reslutin f 1050x1680. Figure 1 KM Prject Setup screen capture Step 3 Enter Descriptin Add a textual descriptin that will explain the prject. The descriptin will appear in the cnfiguratin file (.kmc) and can help explain the cnfiguratin when accessed later r when accessed by ther peple. Step 4 Cmputer/Displays Setup In this stage the administratr will define the number and type f displays cnnected t each cmputer as defined is step 2. Fr every cmputer define the number f displays cnnected t the cmputer by selecting it frm the drp dwn menu Number f Displays. The number f pssible display is limited t 4. Fr mre than 4 displays (quad-head) cnnected t the same cmputer please cntact supprt. Figure 2 Cmputer displays data entry screen capture 10

Sectin 2 - Cnfiguratin Multiple display setup When creating a setup with multiple displays (dual-head, triple-head, quad-head etc.) fr ne r mre f the cmputers there is an additinal need t prperly enter the Micrsft virtual desktp parameters. This step is critical t assure that the KM switch will prvide smth and prprtinal cursr transitin between user displays. When using multiple displays n ne f the machines bth the KM and MS Extended desktp are cntrlling the switching between the displays hence bth mechanisms needs t wrk in synch. The fllwing instructins and screen captures are based n Windws 7 but are almst identical in Windws XP and Windws Vista. G t: Cntrl Panel\All Cntrl Panel Items\Display\Screen Reslutin. Yu can als right click yur desktp and select display reslutin. In the KM cnfiguratin dialg yu will be asked t prvide infrmatin regarding yur primary display. Sectin 2 - Cnfiguratin Step 5 Place the Displays and Create the Gemetry At this stage the administratr will create the verall displays setup. The administratr can drag and drp the displays that were created in prprtin which reflects the size and shape f his actual displays until he/she create a picture similar t his real user envirnment. Each display is clearly marked by its apprpriate cmputer number and display number as entered by the administratr in the previus stage. Displays can be cnnected (tuching) r have sme distance all based n the actual gemetry required. Once the displays are placed, yellw bridges will autmatically appear t indicate areas in which the muse teleprt itself frm ne display t anther. Clicking n ne f these yellw bridges will remve it which will prevent the muse curser frm teleprting thrugh that bridge. Examples: Example 1 - The fllwing setup creates a crridr frm the tp right f display 2 cmputer 2 t the tp bttm left f display 1 cmputer 1. Trying t drag the muse thrugh the red lines will nt wrk.
