Documents submitted in any other format will not be accepted. Files supplied The following files are included: ABA_Sample.dot (shown to the right) ABA_Template.dot (not shown) System requirements Users of Microsoft Windows computers will need Word 95 or greater (e.g., Word 2000) in order to use the template. Users of Apple Macintosh computers will need Word 6.0 or greater (e.g., Word 2001) in order to use the template. All users will need the following fonts installed on their systems: Times New Roman Arial The sample program ( ABA_Sample.dot ) is a version of the template with sample text filled in and appropriate styles applied. The actual template ( ABA_Template.dot ) contains no text only document settings and style sheets. Arial Black Wingdings Make sure these fonts appear in the Font menu in your installation of Word before opening the supplied template.

2008 Insurance Coverage Committee CLE Seminar - Feb 28 - March 1, 2008 4 of 7 AVAILABLE STYLES We ll now return to ABA_Sample.dot for the remainder of these Guidelines. Body text The style that you ll use for most of your text is labeled 10 Body. It produces type set in Times New Roman, 10.5 points, fully justified, with a half-line of space following each paragraph. Remember the following: DO NOTpress Tab to begin a new paragraph; a first line ident is not desired. DO NOTtype double spaces after a sentence; one space will do. Press Enter or Return only ONCE at the end of each paragraph. Lists Two types of lists are availble: Bulleted and Numbered. The screen on the left shows the Bulleted styles (numbered 20 23). Two levels of bullet styles are available (square and round). The last bullet in a bullet list must be in a style labeled Last, such as 21 Bullet Last or 23 Bullet Level 2 Last, to produce the required space before the next Body paragraph. Numbered styles (shown below) are labeled 30 35, and include three outline levels (arabic numeral, alphabetic, and roman). Again, the last item in the list must be in a style labeled Last, such as 31 Number Level 1 Last or 33 Number Level 2 Last, to produce the required space before the next paragraph. The first level of Bullet styles automatically creates a square bullet and idents the text. The second level of Bullet produces a round bullet and indents both the bullet and the text. Note the paragraph space after the last bullet, set in the 21 Bullet Last style. Level 1 of the Numbered styles is signified with arabic numerals. Level 2 uses lower-case alphabetic characters, and Level 3 uses lower-case roman numerals. Note the paragraph space after item 10, set in the 31 Number Level 1 Last style.

2008 Insurance Coverage Committee CLE Seminar - Feb 28 - March 1, 2008 5 of 7 CITATIONS AND PULLQUOTES Four styles are available for handling various kinds of citations and quotes: 11 Case Citation (used to refer to cases within a sentence) 12 Body Block Quote (used for longer quotes) 13 Pullquote (for shorter quotes and for greater impact) 14 Pullquote Endquote These four styles are shown below. Setting a pullquote If you have a short quote that you want to emphasize probably not a quote from a case citation, but more likely an opinion from a journal article or presentation use the 13 Pullquote style. That style will automatically insert a large opening quote mark, so don t type one. You will however need to type the closing quote mark ( ). Then highlight this final quote mark and apply the 14 Pullquote Endquote style, to make it match the large opening quote mark. The circled text is in the 11 Case Citation style. Underlining is not necessary. The following paragraph a long quote is set in 12 Body Block Quote, which automatically indents the text. Pullquotes are set using two styles. 13 Pullquote should be applied to the entire paragraph; 14 Pullquote Endquote is applied to just the final character.
