November1 November is "Peanut Butter Lover's Month." A large number of students today are allergic to peanut butter. Some classrooms and/or schools have even become "Peanut Free" zones. Boone was most well-known for his exploration and settlement of the area that later became the state of Kentucky. As a boy, Boone did not attend much school. November 7 The second week of November is "American Education Week." Do you believe that children in the United States should be required to attend school? Why or why not? November 8 On this day in 1859, the x-ray was discovered. Why has the discovery of the x-ray been important to medicine? Do you think there are any negative aspects to the x-ray? November 10 November is Child Safety & Protection Month. Think about the different items in your house or classroom that may be dangerous for you or other kids. November 11 The third week in November is typically National Geography Awareness Week. Why do you think Americans have such a difficult time locating the United States on a map? What can be done to help change this? Draw and Write: The spider frightened Miss Muffet and she dropped her bowl of curds. She had only eaten half the bowl. Draw a picture to show how much she had left. November 12 On this day in 1815, Women s Rights Leader Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born. Stanton is well known for her work in the furthering of women s rights. Why do you think women were not allowed to vote for such a long time? Draw and Write: Each bag has 5 turkeys. How many turkeys in 4 bags? November 13 Today is Mom & Dad s Day. Take some time to write a letter and/or poem to your mom and dad. You may also want to write a letter or poem for someone else who is important to you. Draw and Write: The old woman baked the gingerbread man at 350 degrees. What do you think would have happened if she baked him at 500 degrees? Draw your idea of what might happen. November 14 This week we celebrate America Recycles Day. Does your family or school recycle? What is the value of recycling? Why is it such an important habit for people to develop? Draw and Write: Oh no! The three little kittens are having trouble with their mittens again! They went outside and one of the kittens got his mittens all muddy. Draw a picture to show how many clean mittens were left.

November 15 Today is National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. Do you know what s in your refrigerator? Think about all the food you keep in your refrigerator. What is your favorite refrigerator food? Draw and Write: Cinderella washed all the floors at 10:00 in the morning. Draw a clock to show the time of day. November 16 Today is Have a Party With Your Bear Day. How will you tell your friends and family about the big day? Write an invitation and a plan on how you can celebrate. DRAW AND WRITE: Teddy invited 32 friends to his party. He wants to make sure that he has enough cupcakes so that each guest can have two. How many cupcakes does Teddy need? November 17 Today is Take a Hike Day. Walking and hiking are great ways to exercise. What are some other things you can do to exercise and stay in shape? Draw and Write: Val hiked 24 miles on Monday, 12 miles on Tuesday, 20 miles on Wednesday, and 26 miles on Thursday. How many miles did Val hike all together? November 18 November is National Model Railroad Month. Model trains are a fun toy for all ages. Why do you think so many people enjoy playing with model trains? DRAW AND WRITE: Mary invited 24 people to celebrate Thanksgiving with her. Each person was bringing two plates of food to share. How many plates of food all together? Explain your answer. November 19 Tell about what you are thankful for. Draw and Write: If you measured your desk in inches and centimeters, would there be more inches or centimeters? Explain your answer. November 20 Today is Beautiful Day day. What makes a day beautiful to you? Draw and Write: Steve counted 14 cows, 22 sheep, 30 chickens, and 12 pigs. How many animals all together?

November 21 Today is world Hello Day. The goal of the day is to Greet 10 people for peace. What else can you do to help promote peace? November 22 November is National Sleep Comfort Month. How do you make sure that you have a comfortable night s sleep? DRAW AND WRITE: Half of the fish swimming in the tank were red, the other half were white. There were 23 red fish. How many fish all together? November 23 Today is eat a Cranberry Day. What is your favorite recipe for cranberries? Can you think of a new way to serve them? DRAW AND WRITE: Max needed 100 cranberries for his pie. He counted 73. How many more cranberries does Max need? November 24 Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. Turkey is a traditional meal for Thanksgiving. Describe in detail how a turkey is prepared for Thanksgiving dinner. DRAW AND WRITE: Eddie s family lives all over the city, and he wants to visit them all for Thanksgiving! First he drove 14 miles to Aunt Mary s house. Then he drove 22 miles to his grandparents house. Finally, Eddie drove 36 miles to visit his cousin Sammy. How many miles did he drive all together? November 25 November is National Novel Writing Month. If you were to write a book about anything, what would you write? Fiction or non-fiction? Who would be your characters? DRAW AND WRITE: Jeff met his friends at the corn maze at 1:15. If he spends 2 and a half hours at the corn maze, what time will he leave? Explain your answer.

November 26 Today is National Cake Day. Using a paragraph format, describe your favorite type of cake. Draw and Write: A Twizzler is longer than a Hershey bar and a Hershey bar is longer than a Tootsie Roll. Use the transitive property to compare the Twizzler and the Tootsie Roll. November 27 Today is Pins and Needles Day. When someone is on pins and needles, it means they are eagerly waiting for something. When do you feel like you are on pins and needles? DRAW AND WRITE: Dawn had 3 quarters, 2 dimes, and 5 nickels. What can she exchange these coins for? November 28 Today is Make Your Own Head Day. Describe what your head looks like. Make sure it is detailed so that someone reading it could recognize you! DRAW AND WRITE: Janice had 12 friends coming over. She wanted to make enough coffee for all of her friends. Each coffee pot holds enough coffee for 4 cups. How many pots of coffee will Janice have to make? November 29 On this day in 1929, American explorer Richard Byrd made the first flight over the South Pole. How do you think they felt as they were flying over? What do you think they saw? DRAW AND WRITE: Jamie was watching a documentary about the South Pole. She counted 82 penguins. Half were Empire penguins. How many were not Empire penguins? November 30 On this day in 1835, Samuel Langhorne Clemens, Mark Twain, was born in Florida, Missouri. During his life he worked as a newspaper reporter, riverboat pilot, and later a writer of fiction. Look at a picture of a riverboat.
