Literature may be a power of art that has beauty facet just like the diction of the words, the utilization of rhythm and meter. Literature is essentially divided into some varieties or genres. Based on the explanation and example above the researcher is interested in analyze figurative language used in I wanna be yours song of Arctic Monkeys because the song tend to use a lot of kinds of figurative language or word styles. One of the single of Arctic Monkeys, tittled I wanna be yours in the AM studio album. People have known that song that in rock romantic genre such as Artic Monkeys tend use a lot of kinds of figurative language or word styles. The Song s lyric of the I wanna be yours used some words/sentences that build to beauty the content of the song. Sometimes it hard to comprehend the meaning of the lyrics in the song that is implied by the lyrics used in the songs are figurative languages. In this research, the researcher tries to interpret the meaning of figurative languages used in the song lyrics of Iwanna be yours as a reference so that people are able to comprehend the messages conveyed by this song. Hopefully, this research will be helpful to avoid any kinds of misinterpretation in form of figurative language used and able to find the types of figurative languages used and the meaning 3

behind the song lyrics to help the readers in either comprehending the meaning or using figurative language. 1.2 Research Problems The following statements of problem are decided based on the background of study: 1. What kinds of figurative language are used in I wanna be yours single of Arctic Monkeys? 2. What are the meanings that can be inferred from figurative languages used in I wanna be yours single of Arctic Monkeys? 1.3 Research Purposes In terms of problem statement, this study is intended to: 1. Identify the kinds of figurative language used in I wanna be yours single of Arctic Monkeys. 2. Explain the meaning of figurative languages used in I wanna be yours single of Arctic Monkeys. 1.4 Scope and Limitation The scope of this study is figurative languages used in song lyrics by Artic Monkeys. This study is limited in I wanna be yours single of Arctic Monkeys. This song is chosen because that is the song that take rock as their genre. 1.5 Research Significance First of all, the result of this study is supposed to be useful and helpful for all of the readers theoretically and practically, especially for English Department students. 4

a. Theoretically : this result of the study is expected to enlarge the knowledge about figurative languages and its kinds to. And also can be be useful to conduct further studies for those who are interested to research figurative language in song lyrics as one of the literary work. b. Practically : Hopefully, all of the readers will be interested as well as appreciating the literary works, particularly the use of figurative languages in lyrics of the song. 1.6 Definition of Key Terms To avoid misunderstanding and misinterpretation, the following terms want to be defined: Figurative language is a conspicuous departure as the standard meaning of words or the standard order of words that are apprehended through customers of language in order to achieve some different meanings or consequences (Abrams, 1999:96).
