2 SENIOR SCHOOL MUSIC 2018-2019

Channing Music Music for all is our mantra. The Music School provides a friendly, enthusiastic and stimulating environment in which musical excellence is encouraged and celebrated. We help our students develop their musical potential and respond to a variety of musical challenges. Students are given the opportunity to perform individually and in ensembles - irrespective of age or musical ability. We have a fabulous, fully equipped Music School. Often all rooms are in use and the place literally buzzes with musical activity. Each week we have 27 musical group activities from Senior Strings to Jazz Band. Channing Music is very busy with over 40 concerts taking place throughout the year from the weekly Friday lunchtime concert series to the formal orchestral and choral concerts held in prestigious venues. Some of our musicians attend the junior departments of the London conservatoires and play in prestigious orchestras outside of school such as the National Youth Orchestra (recently the leader of the NYO was in Y13), National Children s Orchestra and the London Schools Symphony Orchestra. A number of girls in recent years have been awarded Choral Scholarships to Oxford or Cambridge. We are very proud of the achievements of our choirs and orchestras. Recent works have included Rutter s and Fauré s Requiems, Grieg s Piano Concerto, Mozart s Requiem, Elgar s Cello Concerto, Shostakovich s Festive Overture, Saint-Saën s Organ Symphony and Beethoven s 5th Symphony. For many girls, one of the Music School s highlights is the foreign tours that have been undertaken to Venice, Vienna, Boston, Madrid, Toledo and Lisbon. They perform in such wonderful venues as St Mark s Basilica, SS Giovanni e Paolo in Venice, the Stephansdom and Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, the Arlington Street Church and JFK Presidential Library in Boston, the Catedral d Alcala de Henares in Madrid, and the Old Se and St Jeronimo s Monastery in Lisbon. Each of these tours has been a fantastic experience for our girls who are now looking forward to their exciting tour of Venice in October 2019.
