Preface vi SMS 8104 Instruction Manual

SMS 8104 Serial Digital Frame Delay Introduction The SMS 8000 product line consists of a 1RU frame which holds up to four modules. The modules provide such functions as video delay and format conversion. Modules are selected by the user to suit their particular requirements. The SMS 8104 Serial Digital Frame Delay Module is used to delay 525 and 625 serial component digital video. Features of the 8104 module include: Delay Adjust (Slow/Fast, Pixel or Line Steps, ±) Freeze Frame (2 Fields) Local or Remote (GPI) Control 8 Digit Program Delay Display (Line/Micro-seconds) (Serial Input) Signal Present LED Indicator The module has a user enabled (jumper select) automatic Freeze Frame circuit for those cases where the serial input TRS is not detected for 9 consecutive lines. The 8104 has a Freeze Field circuit (front panel select) that causes full frame Þeld 1 data to be output when selected. Auto Freeze Frame and Freeze Field modes are used for factory test only. Both modes generate video that does not comply with SMPTE 259M The 8104 module resides in a standard SMS 8000 one rack unit frame. SMS 8104 Instruction Manual 1

SMS 8104 Serial Digital Frame Delay Functional Description The 8104 provides a user adjustable delay of up to 2 Þelds for either 525 or 625 line component serial video data (270 Mbit per SMPTE 259M). At Þrst time power-up, the circuit is conþgured to minimum delay. Subsequent power-ups program the delay and conþguration set at the last power-down. Upon power-down, an EEPROM stores the delay setting, Freeze Frame/Field status, mode conþguration (525 or 625) and display contents. Delay adjustments are made using card edge delay increase, delay decrease, and shift momentary push-buttons. An eight-digit LED display indicates the program delay in Lines and Microseconds. A toggle switch allows the user to select between local (card edge) control or remote (GPI) control. A momentary toggle switch enables the user to select between Freeze Frame, Freeze Field, or Freeze Off modes.
