Welcome to the Bel Aire Play 2019 The Bel Aire Play is sponsored by the Bel Aire PTA and is directed by a professional Theater & Choreography Director and professional Music & Vocal Directors. Hopefully your questions will be answered here please let us know if we ve missed anything. PLAY REGISTRATION $200 per child The Student Registration fees to the PTA cover costs to hire professional Musical Theater Directors. The fee also funds supervision provided by our Bel Aire Teacher Aides and other RUSD personnel, instructional materials, costumes, sets, props, lighting, sound, and other staff. PARENT VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT 8 hours per child or $200 per child With over 200 children divided into two casts and 6 performances over 5 days, the Bel Aire play is only possible with help of many parent volunteers. Each parent is required to volunteer 8 hours for one child, 12 hours for two, toward the success of the production. There are MANY fun ways to volunteer before the show, much of which can be done from home: tickets sales, program design, communications, props, costumes, or working onsite building sets. And, during the shows, volunteers help with student supervision, concession sales, backstage logistics, ushering, make up/hair, and more. When registering your child online, please select 2 volunteer options. Please note that we may not be able to place everyone in their first choice activity. If you are interested in leading one of these areas as a committee chair, please let us know! If you are unable to fulfill the volunteer time requirement please contribute $200 as a Parent Volunteer Buy Out. This fee is per child and is applied toward paid RUSD staff hired to help fill the gaps. AUDITIONS Audition details will be sent to parents by email following online registration. Parents (including all play volunteers) are not allowed to watch auditions. Below is a basic overview of what to expect. 4th & 5th Grade: Acting, Singing and Movement Students will be asked to sing a line and act out a line from the audition materials. A simple movement exercise will be taught and performed. Auditions will be held in front of fellow actors and a panel of teachers/directors. 3rd Grade: All 3rd grade students are cast as ensemble and will participate in fun, creative roles. Auditions are designed to be fun and to meet the Play Directors. They will participate in short acting, singing and movement exercises and will not audition individually. REFUNDS Last Day to Cancel and Receive a Full Refund: Wednesday, December 19 The Student Registration and Parent Volunteer Buy Out (if applicable) will be refunded in full if the cancellation is received by this day. Refunds will not be offered after December 19, 2018.

REHEARSALS Please have your child bring a nut free snack to enjoy before rehearsals. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays on a rotating schedule, depending on casting. Your child s rehearsal schedule will be sent by email December 2nd with the cast list. The rotating schedule is designed with the understanding that your child may miss up to 2 rehearsals (unexcused) and that your child might need to miss other activities to adhere to the play commitment. Students who miss rehearsals on a regular basis not only miss out on important stage, movement and vocal instruction for themselves, their absence can cause confusion for other students regarding their placement on stage and vocal cues, etc. Rehearsal Dates 12/4 12/14 (no rehearsal week of 12/17) 1/8 3/19 Rehearsal Times Tuesdays or Fridays (3 5pm), or Wednesdays (2 4pm) Extended Rehearsals 2/26 3/19 Tuesdays or Fridays (3 5:30pm), or Wednesdays (2 4:30pm) Mandatory Tech Rehearsal 3/16 All Performers (Times TBD) Mandatory Dress Rehearsals 3/18 & 19, one cast each day (3:00 5:30pm) Please expect Leads to be called as often as 2x / week, some other cast members may also be called 2x / week depending on which scenes are scheduled for that rehearsal. 3rd Grade students will only have rehearsal 1x / week until closer to the performance dates. Rehearsal Attendance and Behavior Commitment Theater is an ensemble, and teamwork and consideration for your fellow actors is crucial. Please review and sign the Actor Contract (attached) for details about the behavior and attendance commitments. Attendance at rehearsal is very important to the overall cast. Please be sure to inform us if your child will be unable to attend. Students who miss more than two (2) unexcused rehearsals, (missed rehearsals due to illness not included) will be asked to reconsider participation in the play. *Siblings are only allowed at rehearsals when they are also scheduled for rehearsal that day.
