SDCRS NEWSLETTER Next meeting: March 19, 2016 Website: www.sandiegocountyrecordersociety.org The San Diego County Recorder Society (SDCRS) is a chapter of the national American Recorder Society, and has been in existence since 1972. A membership organization, the SDCRS supports recreational playing and public performance of recorders and other early music instruments through monthly play sessions, recorder instruction, workshops and pro-bono public concerts. The SDCRS has operated in the past with leadership delegated formally to a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, Refreshments Coordinator, and Web Master. Since the succession to these offices was not completed formally at the last SDCRS season s final meeting, the current and future leadership of the SDCRS will be in the form of an SDCRS Executive Committee, currently consisting of Harvey Winokur, Vanessa Evans, Hugh Wade, Susan Neumeyer, and Maggie Fowlie. The intention of the Executive Committee is to have our SDCRS operate in much the same manner as in the past. We will continue to have regular monthly meetings, guest conductors, refreshments at regular meetings and free recorder instruction when there is sufficient interest. We plan to schedule a SDCRS workshop on October 22, 2016 (keep that date open) If any SDCRS member wishes to become a member of the SDCRS Executive Committee, please contact one of the current members whose contact information is given later in this newsletter. All inputs are welcome. MARCH 19, 2016 GUEST CONDUCTOR Ulla was born and raised in Germany, and began recorder studies at the age of 7 with Renate Stoltenberg at the Institute of Music Leverkusen (near Cologne). In 1980 she won third prize in the Young Musicians Competition (Jugend Musiziert). Her musical training continued at the University of the Virgin Islands where she studied Applied Reeds, and at the New England Conservatory of Music where she studied classical guitar. Since immigrating to the United States in 1986, Ulla maintains a semi-professional status as a featured soloist. She also is a co-founder of various ensembles throughout the United States. Ulla currently performs with San Diego based groups such as Windsor Hills, Trio Lonato, and the Kensington Baroque Orchestra. A video of Ulla playing the 4 th movement of Telemann s Recorder Concerto in C Major can be seen at www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvrm5hbx1na. ULLA SINZ Ulla will conduct music by Dering, Meesch, Kiyore, anonymous, and Isaac (Innsbruck), as well as a double-choir Canzona. Hard copy music will be provided for the double-choir Canzona; however the other music will be provided as PDF files to an email separate from the Newsletter email. Please print out your own hard copy of this music, as only a very limited amount of hard copy will be available at the meeting. In addition, pick out a part of the Innsbruck and be prepared to sing it. Ulla is planning to bring a video device to the meeting for filming and recording the audio of this piece.
