BERLIOZ 150 marks the 150 th anniversary of the death of the French composer Hector Berlioz BERLIOZ 150 WILL CELEBRATE THE LIFE AND WORKS OF HECTOR BERLIOZ BY:. Promoting performances, events and publications featuring Berlioz in 2019 and 2020. Creating a unique online classical music resource for teachers and young people. A memorable UK-wide programme of events BERLIOZ 150 WILL ACT AS ENABLER, COORDINATOR AND PUBLICIST: Encouraging orchestras, opera companies, music festivals, venues, conductors, chamber groups, recitalists, music organisations, publishers, recording companies and broadcasters to programme works by or relating to Berlioz Promoting other activities such as conferences, exhibitions, lectures, dinners, receptions, publications and media coverage Delivering high-profile events specifically to promote BERLIOZ 150, including a launch event and a Sesquicentenary Event to mark the anniversary itself Publicising the programme to a wide audience via the BERLIOZ 150 website, e- bulletins and social media sites and through traditional media outlets Stimulating other countries, particularly in Europe, to mount Berlioz events and performances in 2019 and to participate in the children s choral initiative, Fantastique!
Innovative online learning resources for schools THE BERLIOZ 150 DIGITAL PLATFORM WILL: Be targeted specifically at children aged 8-13, as well as at a more general audience Take the form of a free-access website, offering engaging and entertaining interactive learning experiences Include videos and soundtracks from major Berlioz-related performances, interviews with leading performers, high-quality editorial content and tailored educational materials for students and teachers Serve as a comprehensive portal for information on the BERLIOZ 150 programme, including event listings and links for ticket purchasing Provide all the material to support the massed children s choral initiative, Fantastique! Be developed as a major element in the long-term legacy of the BERLIOZ 150 project
The Largest-ever children s choral event in the UK FANTASTIQUE! Fantastique! is inspired by the Charity Children s Concert attended by Berlioz in St Paul s Cathedral in June 1851, with 6,500 singing children, which he described as the most extraordinary thing I have seen and heard in my whole life Fantastique! will be the largest-ever children s choir in the UK, with a target of 10,000 children aged 8 13, from the UK and beyond, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, first half of 2020 Fantastique! will incorporate an eclectic range of musical styles, from classical to hip-hop, so that classical music is experienced by the participants as just one musical genre among many for them to explore and enjoy Fantastique! will include the world première of a specially-commissioned new work by a leading contemporary composer, as well as of Berlioz s own Le Temple Universel Fantastique! will seek to give participants an unforgettable musical experience and inspire them with a continuing love of music, which will represent the most important legacy of BERLIOZ 150 Fantastique! will be delivered in partnership with Young Voices, the Aloud charity and the Principality Stadium, together with broadcast and media partners and other key bodies in Wales such as the Welsh Government and Arts Council Wales; our partners will also be part of carrying forward the legacy of the BERLIOZ 150 project.

OUR TEAM AND SUPPORTERS The Berlioz Sesquicentenary Committee (also named BERLIOZ 150) is a registered charity, number 1173910 Our Patrons are: David Cairns (Patron-in-Chief), Dame Janet Baker CH, Lord (Michael) Berkeley of Knighton CBE, Suzi Digby (Lady Eatwell) OBE, Chi-chi Nwanoku OBE, Sir Mark Elder CH CBE, Sir John Eliot Gardiner CBE, Sir Roger Norrington CBE, Sir Antonio Pappano and Robin Ticciati. The charity is governed by its Trustees, currently Lord Aberdare (Chair), Dr Victoria Cooper, Sir Adam Ridley, Gerry Wade, Nicholas Snowman and Kathleen Duncan OBE ; we are currently recruiting other trustees.
