Title : A Survey of the Contemporary Western Studies of Oscar Wilde Abstract : Oscar Wilde has been a frequent topic in the Western critical world. In the 1950s,studies of him basically followed the way of earlier research by concentrating upon his personal life, his style and such anecdotes as his homosexual disputes, litigations and legal procedures that led to his early death. After the 1960s,the research is more and more focused on the form of his text. From the 1980s up to the present, the study has been demonstrating a cultural and increasingly multi2dimensional ten2 dency. Key words : the study of Oscar Wilde biography text culture Author :Zhang Jieming is professor at the Humanity School of Shanghai Lixin Accounting College. He is author of quite a few essays on French, English and American novels. Title : Space Theory and Literary Space Abstract : Space Theory, especially that of Edward Soja s theory of the third space, is a hot issue among postmodern space theories. In addition to a comparison between the third space and Borges s Aleph, the paper also explored the ways to re2interpret literary space offered by Mike Crang. Key words : space the third space Henri Lefebvre Edward Soja Mike Crang Author : Lu Yang is professor at the Department of Philosophy, Nankai University. His research area is aesthetics and world literature. Title : A Study of RenGirard s Post2Modernist Critical Approach Abstract : RenGirard first proved his theory on imitation desire through literary works and has formed his unique interpreting method of literary criticism in his persevering study of 40 years. His theory of imitation desire has ever since become the cornerstone for literary interpretation, which can be employed to unveil the mystery of mythologies. The outstanding feature of his interpreting method is to penetrate the imaginary surface to seek truth and find the origin of meaning. His greatest contribu2 tion is the discovery of persecution text and the classification of four models of persecution text. His 170

theory may be used to interpret literary phenomenon and to explore cultural phenomenon as well. Key words : RenGirard imitation desire truth persecution text Author : Feng Shounong is currently professor at Foreign Languages College, Xiamen University. However, this essay points out that al2 though the ambiguous identity of the hero Christmas is exerted by such forces social institutions as the slavery, and cultural convention and racial discrimination, the totally trapped hero found it impossible to establish his hybrid and uncertain identity as a weapon of fighting against the destructive racialism. Key words : identity Faulkner Light in August postcolonial criticism Author : Sheng Anfeng is lecturer of English at the Foreign Languages Department of Tsinghua Uni2 versity. His research interest is in comparative literature and western literary theories. Title :A Cultural Interpretation of the Sexual Theme in Winesberg, Ohio Abstract : In Sherwood Anderson s work Winesburg, Ohio, Sex is an everlastingly debated topic. In this thesis, the analysis proceeds from two perspectives : one is image and relation of both sexes, the other is love notion. Furthermore, it makes a cultural interpretation of these two themes. In methodology, this thesis adopts modern approaches of narratology, not only to look upon the presenta2 tion of sexual theme at the histoire level, but also to analyze its cultural connotations at discourse level. Key words : Winesburg, Ohio sexual theme Eros Agape Author : Ma Zheng is Ph. D. candidate at the Department of Comparative Literature and World Liter2 ature, Sichuan University. Title : On the Poetic Language of Steinbeck s Fiction Abstract : Steinbeck s love for classical music and his profound knowledge in poetry inspire him to pursue the effect of poetic language in his fiction. The poetic language of his fiction is characterized by the allusiveness of the titles of the fiction, the figurativeness and philosophy of the character language 171
