Central Idea: It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night. Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees very gradually I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever. Writing Contest Annual Poe Horror Story Contest! All student writers will hand in the stories. I will select the finalists and then a panel of judges will select the winner. May 31 7:57 AM 21

**Poe Writing Contest** Poe is one of the premier horror authors, paving the way for others like Stephen King and movies like The Silence of the Lambs. Now that you have read a few of his pieces, it is your turn! Determine four to five Poe traits that you have noticed in both of his stories. Use those and create your own horror tale! Stories should be approximately one page. You may work with one to two people. Stories are due at the end of the period and will be judged. Prizes will be awarded to the story that not only is a terrific horror story, but one that captures Poe s spirit. Nov 2 7:27 AM 22
