3.0 INSTALLATION Check to make sure the source is producing a full screen picture* (not letterbox) by connecting it to a component video input on an HDTV display. Make sure the standard definition TV is also working. Turn off the intended video source and the TV(s). Connect a component video source (YPbPr or YCbCr) to the inputs of the 1360. Use a matched set of high quality, 75 ohm video cables. Connect one of the standard definition outputs (S-Video or composite) to a standard definition TV. Use high quality cables S-Video cables should be kept as short as possible. Optional: connect the bypass output to a component video display. Turn on the video source and the TV(s). Connect the 1360 power adapter to an AC outlet and press the 1360 power switch. Observe that the power light is on. HD VIDEO INPUT POWER SWITCH POWER INDICATOR LIGHT AC ADAPTER CONNECTION Pr Pb Y POWER DC 5V HD IN UNDERSCAN/ OVERSCAN NTSC/PAL VIDEO OUTPUT COMPOSITE S-VIDEO HD VIDEO OUTPUT (BYPASS) U/S PAL VIDEO S-VIDEO Y Pb Pr O/S NTSC OUT HD BYPASS * The 1360 performs an initialization sequence each time power is applied. During this initialization, a full screen image is required on the input as opposed to letterbox. Once initialization has occurred, the 1360 tracks HDTV input resolutions and position automatically. 5

3.1 OPERATING THE 1360 The 1360 detects the output resolution of the source after power is applied. Generally, use the NTSC mode in the USA, otherwise, set the switch to PAL. Adjust the underscan/overscan switch to make the picture larger or smaller. 3.2 GETTING THE BEST RESULTS Output display device. The quality of the output signal depends largely upon the type and quality of display device used. For instance, some standard definition TVs have better picture quality than others. On the other hand, some HD satellite or cable feeds carry heavily compressed video material that may not look as good as a composite video source on the same TV. Distance between the 1360 and the display device. Long distances are possible, but use high quality (coax-type) cable to avoid signal losses from impedance and interference. Use good quality RG-59, or RG-6 for long distance runs. Interference. Nearby electrical devices can have an adverse effect on signal quality. For example, older computer monitors often emit electromagnetic fields that can interfere with the performance of nearby video equipment. 4.0 TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE No picture on the video display check the following: Check the 1360 power LED, and make certain the AC adapter is plugged in to a working AC outlet. Check the input and output cables for loose connections, and inspect the cables for damage, and/or substitute a known good cable. Make sure the NTSC/PAL switch is set correctly Poor quality picture or bad picture position check the following: Use high quality composite or S-Video and component video cables. Always make sure the source is producing a full screen picture (not letterbox) on 1360 power up. See the explanation at the bottom of page 5. Use the U/S or O/S mode (underscan or overscan) to resize the picture on the screen. If problems persist, contact the Audio Authority Technical Service department via email: support@audioauthority.com, or call 800-322-8346 or 859-233-4599. 6
