And it s the return of a family favourite...!! Performers must be aged between 10 and 18 (9 and 18 for Go Theatre Students) 2 Performances each day. No evening performances. No performance on Monday 29 th July Running Time: approx. 1 Hour Technical & Dress Rehearsals: Thursday 25 th & Friday 26 th July Rehearsals will begin with some music calls in April Rehearsal days: Sunday afternoons and/or early evenings plus some weekday evenings depending on availability. Not everyone will be called to every rehearsal and additional rehearsal days may be added nearer production period.
Somewhere under the sea, you ll find an adventure beyond your imagination... In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home and her fins behind and live in the world above. But first she'll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she s the girl whose enchanting voice he s been seeking. In 1989, Disney s version of The Little Mermaid was released into the cinemas. Go are delighted to be presenting their production of The Little Mermaid to celebrate the 30 th Birthday of the movie that has enchanted a generation. This adaptation of the 2008 Broadway production features all the popular songs from the original Disney animated adventure including Part of Your World and Under The Sea. Emma-Jayne Parker The Director Emma-Jayne is a freelance director, choreographer, teacher and producer. She has appeared in professional musicals, pantomime and cabaret across the UK, Europe and the Far East, directs and choreographs for various theatre companies internationally and teaches dance. She has extensive experience in many styles of theatre. Recent productions as Director include 13 the Musical, Carrie the Musical and Be More Chilll, Seussical Jr. (andgo) & The Snow Queen, Once On This Island (Simply Theatre, Switzerland) Credits as Movement Director / Choreographer include, Merchant of Venice (Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival), We Will Rock You (Cardiff and Vale College) A Christmas Carol, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, Bugsy Malone & Hansel & Gretel (Simply Theatre Productions, Switzerland), Our House (Unknown Theatre), Old Hands (Hijinx Theatre), Much Ado About Nothing (Mappa Mundi), The Flint Street Nativity (andgo), Macbeth, Allo Allo, Twelfth Night & The Comedy of Errors (Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival) and a short film: A Very British Cover Up. Emma-Jayne is a fully qualified teacher with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) and teaches many styles of dance including Modern, Jazz, Tap and Ballet. At her Studio, she coaches for Dance and Drama School auditions; recent students have gained entry to Doreen Bird College, Arts Educational School and Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. She is also a fully licensed Chaperone with Cardiff County Council. As Co-Producer of Go Productions (andgo): shows include Seussical Jr. Disney s Alice In Wonderland Jr, Alan Ayckbourn s Confusions, The Flint Street Nativity, 13, Carrie, Be More Chill and co-productions of Anorak Of Fire (with Main8 Productions) and John Godber s Bouncers (with Arts Active) at St David s Hall. She is also the immensely proud Principal of Go Theatre and Dance Academy a thriving part time performing arts school run at a number of locations across Cardiff for over 150 children and adults. Providing excellent opportunities for students to perform at fantastic venues, build confidence and follow dreams. Emma-Jayne strives to create performance opportunities for all her students. The Characters Casting is open, all roles are available and newcomers to our Festival shows are welcome and encouraged. All performers need to be capable of being larger than life, must have bags of energy and expression and no fear of engaging directly with our young audiences! Please note that all performers must be 18 years or younger. Ariel has some beautiful solos but must be able to convey meaning through gesture once she loses her voice. The headmistress in Prince Eric s palace and Ariel s greatest human ally. The over-the-top head chef in the palace. He is always wild and frenetic. Electric Eels and Ursula s slippery spies. Ariel s sincere and sensitive best friend who is loyal to the end. Prince Eric s prim and proper valet. He is rigid in personality and constantly trying to guide the Prince to the throne. Scuttle s flock of zany back-up singers who help explain human stuff to Ariel. Ruler of the sea and a force to be reckoned with. Ariel s sisters Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana are full of personality and sass. An ability to handle harmonies is essential. Head sailor on Prince Eric s ship. The adventurous Prince who captures Ariel s heart. The six Princesses who try to win Prince Eric s heart. The crew of Prince Eric s ship. The know-it-all seagull who serves as Ariel s expert on humans. The court herald for King Triton. The meticulous and anxious crab who tries to keep Ariel safe whilst getting to lead some of the most memorable songs in the show. The manipulative sea witch who tries to overthrow King Triton. She is cunning and devious and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Most of the cast will also appear in the Sea Chorus playing Merfolk, Lagoon Animals and Sea Creatures, but we will also require some additional Sea Chorus members. Strong movement skills are essential. PLEASE NOTE Some roles may be double-cast. For the roles of Ariel & Prince Eric, we will be casting actors aged 16 years and over. The Little Mermaid Jr. 2019 3
The Auditions Before auditioning, please take a moment to consider the necessary level of commitment. Take careful note of the rehearsal period and be honest about your availability within it. Although the rehearsal process takes place over a number of weeks, consistent and punctual attendance is essential, as we will be operating within a very tight schedule. A high level of unavailability, persistent lateness and/or no-show will regrettably result in your being asked to leave the production. The auditions will be held at Chapter Arts Centre, Market Road, Canton, Cardiff on Sunday 10 th March with possible recalls the following week. If you would like to audition but cannot attend on this day, please let us know as soon as possible. Auditions will be held in groups. Each audition slot will be for 50 mins. Ages 13-18: 10.30am, 11.30am & 12.30pm, Ages 9 12: 2pm, 3pm & 4pm Please arrive 15mins before your audition slot and bring with you your completed audition form (page 5) with photograph. Spare audition forms will be available on the day. Prepare an upbeat West-End / Broadway song. Please provide a Backing Track on CD, Memory stick or portable device. We will only need to hear 2 mins max. There is a lot of dance/movement in the show so arrive dressed appropriately and be prepared to move.
