OUR PHILOSOPHY Our philosophy has always been to manufacture surge protection that far surpasses our customer s expectations. The GX Series is a result of this philosophy. The GX Series is like no other DC-passing protector. It has separate circuits for RF-path protection and DC pass protection. This extra filtering allows us to provide the lowest let through voltage in the industry. The GX Series is the protector to which all others are compared, and is the standard protector for GPS and tower mounted equipment. DETAILED SPECS GX INSTALLATION TYPICAL BULKHEAD GROUNDING TYPICAL FLANGE MOUNTING WARNING! It is very important that this unit be grounded to a low impedance (low R and low L) ground system in order to work properly. We strongly recommend this ground be interconnected to the tower ground and power ground to form one system. To minimize in-air interconnect inductance to the ground system since skin effect is present, use as straight and large a surface area copper strap as possible. Keep bends in copper strap to an 8.0" [203.2mm] radius or larger. NOTE: O-Ring and/or hardware is supplied as a hardware kit with each unit. VISIT: WWW.POLYPHASER.COM/GX FOR MORE INFORMATION 4
GX GROUNDING THERE ARE THREE PREFERRED METHODS FOR GROUNDING THE GX PROTECTOR. GROUNDING WITH THE GX The GX Series comes equipped with an integrated lid and mounting flange that can be used for grounding. The flange incorporates a captive 8mm PEM stud. In order to effectively ground this device we recommend using a 6 AWG ring terminal as shown. The ring terminal and wire are not included with the protection device and should be purchased separately. GROUNDING WITH A TERMINAL LUG The GX Series device can also be grounded using an N (Part # TLN) or Din (Part# TLD) terminal lug as shown. Hardware for attaching a terminal lug as shown is included with the device. However, the terminal lug is not included and must be purchased separately. GROUNDING WITH A COPPER STRAP Using a flat copper strap is the most effective way to drain surge energy to the ground plane. When used in conjunction with a single point grounding system, such as the PB and PEEP grounded entry panels, the copper strap is especially effective in considerably reducing, and in some cases eliminating, surge currents to the equipment. If you wish to use a 1-½" flat copper strap (Part# CS112-25) to ground the GX Series to a grounding plane, it will be necessary to purchase the 9400-0413 hardware package for each end of the strap. This hardware package includes the nuts, bolts, and sandwich plate. This method is the preferred method for effective surge drainage. IMPORTANT NOTE: When grounding the GX Series to the PEEP grounding system a 6AWG grounding wire is acceptable if less than 12 inches. When not using a PEEP grounding system a Uni-Kit cable grounding kit must be used to effectively drain surge energy from the shield prior to the building cable entry point. GX LID BRACKET ORIENTATION The lid for the GX is part of the tuning circuit and should never be removed; therefore, it is imperative that the correct lid configuration be selected at the time of order. Below are depictions of all of the various orientations of the GX lid. You can change the suffix of the part number to reflect a different configuration, e.g., DGXZ+06NFNF-A would have the mounting flange tucked under the device, in comparison, the DGXZ+06NFNF-D has the rotated lid 180 degrees away from the device. 9 BE PREPARED, BE PROTECTED.
BE PREPARED, BE PROTECTED. SX The SX radio frequency DC-blocked filter protectors are ideal for RF coaxial applications where DC is not required. The SX can be used on high-powered RF feeder lines in the range of 350 to 2,800 MHz, as well as low-powered microwave sites at 2 to 10 GHz. The SX is available in a multitude of connector configurations each exhibiting low return loss, insertion loss and let through voltage. SPIKEGUARD SpikeGuard is leading a revolution in the straight gas tube protection market by bringing together a smaller profile, superior RF performance, competitive pricing and immediate availability through our vast partner network. AIRSMART AirSmart is a multi-faceted product line that not only facilitates communication between non-aisg legacy tower mounted equipment and AISG compatible base stations; but acts as a bias-tee, lightning protector, in addition to providing monitoring functions through a high speed RS485 data interface. DATA Keep your high-speed data networks protected from lightning by using the NetGuard and the IX Series protectors. The NetGuard is a series of RJ45 plug-in protectors for indoor use; and the IX is a series of hard-wired protectors used primarily for outdoor applications. Both the NetGuard and the IX work on POE, T1, DSL, Ethernet, and RS485 applications. The NetGuard NXG series is an RJ45 plug-in protector for indoor Gigabit Ethernet applications. For outdoor applications, use the GigaGuard high-speed data protector. BE PREPARED, BE PROTECTED. 10
ABOUT GX WHY SHOULD YOU USE A GX PROTECTOR? If you are like most of our customers, you want to spend your time doing more important things than driving to a remote site, climbing a tower, or opening a cell site just to change a single protection device that has failed or has a large amount of VSWR. If this is you, then the GX Series is your answer. The GX Series is an established protector for GPS receivers and applications that require a DC voltage for tilt antennas or tower mounted amplification. The GX Series was engineered to perform in the harsh cell site environment, so it was built to last and requires no maintenance. Yet, some of our competitors will tell you that their protectors work just as well. Well they are wrong! What separates the GX Series from the alternative gastube or hybrid quarterwave stub is its performance and protection. The GX Series is a multistage protector, unlike the quarterwave stub and a straight gastube protector. The multiple stages of the GX Series allow it to dissipate a surge through a series of protection elements while simultaneously isolating the DC circuit from the surge. This isolation ensures that the RF and the DC portion of the signals are protected, filtered and then recollected and distributed to the radio as a clean and protected signal. No other protector on the market can do this. The quarterwave stub by its nature is a DC short device, so in order to make it pass DC voltage, competitors introduced a gastube, which weakens the protection (slow turn-on, higher energy let-through) as the device is now basically a gastube protector with an inductive element. Both the gastube and the hybrid quarterwave allow copious amounts of energy through to your equipment. The GX Series, on the other hand, does not. The GX Series is the choice of RF professionals. The GX Series is built specifically for you, by engineers who truly understand the RF environment and the peace of mind that comes from complete protection. 11 VISIT: WWW.POLYPHASER.COM/GX FOR MORE INFORMATION
