Front cover photo from the film Way Out directed by Anna Ottlik STIFF ON THE ROAD nam i ove godine donosi najbolje s prošlogodišnjeg 3. Međunarodnog studentskog filmskog festivala STIFF. Uz dva nagrađena filma - dokumentarnog Gnjezdo redateljice Kristine Leidenfrostove, te igranog Amerika redateljice Aleksandre Trepinske, publika će imati priliku vidjeti i tri filma kojima je žiri dodjelio posebna priznanja u kategorijama igranog, dokumentarnog i animiranog filma. Međunarodni studentski filmski festival / Student International Film Festival (STIFF) prvi je hrvatski međunarodni festival koji je posvećen isključivo studentskom filmu. Pokrenut je u produkciji Filmaktiva i Studentskog kulturnog centra Sveučilišta u Rijeci (SKC), a ima za cilj predstavljanje najboljeg od svjetske studentske filmske produkcije. U protekle tri godine trajanja festivala, zaprimljeno je preko tri tisuće filmova iz cijelog svijeta, od čega je selektirano i prikazano više od 200 najrecentnijih studentskih igranih, dokumentarnih, animiranih i eksperimentalnih filmova. Prijave za 4. STIFF su u tijeku, a završni rok je 20.4.2017. Datumi održavanja sljedećeg festivalskog izdanja su od 19. do 22. listopada 2017. u Rijeci. STIFF ON THE ROAD film program brings the best from last year s Student International Film Festival STIFF. Along with two awarded films The Nest documentary by Kristina Leidenfrostova and short fiction film America by Aleksandra Trepinska, this special film treat also presents three films, which earned special mentions by the jury. Student International Film Festival (STIFF) is a first festival in Croatia dedicated only to the work of student and debutant filmmakers. It is organized as a partner project of Filmaktiv and SKC Rijeka (Student Culture Center), with the purpose to present the best of the student film production from around the world. In the past three years of STIFF existence, the festival counts over 3000 submitted films coming from around the world, out of which selected and programmed more than 200 most recent student fiction, documentary, animation and experimental films. Submissions for the 4th STIFF are now open and the late deadline is 20th April 2017. Festival dates are 19th to 22nd October 2017.
STIFF 2016 WINNER / FICTION The excellently written and structured script, confident direction, exquisite photography that uses gloomy tones to atmospherically depict the hopelessness of the nondescript and forgotten province, and the true-to- life acting of the two actresses leads us to the conclusion that Ameryka is an artistically well-balanced and complete work. Dvije tinejdžerice, Anka i Dzastina, maštaju o boljem životu. Ovim nerazdvojnim prijateljicama dojadila je svakodnevnica te stoga odluče autostopirati. Ono što je trebala biti nevina pustolovina pretvara se u emocionalnu igru u kojoj se istina isprepleće s fikcijom, a slijed događaja nepovratno odnose likova te njihove poglede na svijet. Aleksandra Terpińska je Studentica režije na sveučilištu u Katowicama, diplomirala je psihologiju na Sveučilištu u Wroclawu. Redateljica i scenaristica kratkih filmova, reklama i glazbenih spotova. Dobitnica je 16 nagrada, uključujući nagradu Grand Prix u kategoriji drame na Festivalu kratkih filmova, nagradu za najbolji kratki film na Filmskom festivalu Cottbus te nagradu Mastershot na međunarodnom filmskom festivalu Camerimage. AMERICA / AMERIKA Aleksandra Terpińska, fiction, 30, Poland, 2015. Two teenagers Anka and Dzastina play around with dreams about a better life. The two inseparable friends, bored with their everyday existence, decide to hitch-hike. A meant-to-be innocent adventure changes into an emotional game in which truth intertwines with fiction and the sequence of consecutive events irreversibly changes mutual relations of the characters and their perspective of existing world. Aleksandra Terpińska is a student of Directing at the University of Silesia in Katowice, a graduate of Psychology at the University of Wroclaw. The director and screenwriter of short films, commercials and music videos. She received 16 awards, including Grand Prix at Short Film Festival in Drama, Best Short Film at Cottbus Film Festival and PFI and Mastershot Award at Camerimage. WAY OUT / IZLAZ Anna Ottlik, animation 6, Hungary, 2014. Film prati djevojku koja je odlučila napustiti svoj dom i preseliti se u novo strano i okrutno mjesto... The film is about a girl who has decided to leave her home behind and move to a new foreign and rigid place Anna Ottlik završila je preddiplomski studij na BFK-u (Sveučilište primijenjenih znanosti u Budimpešti) 2014. Trenutno je pohađa diplomski studij na MOME-u. Neki od njenih filmova su Afternoon Tea (Popodnevni čaj), Each half and other (Svaka polovica i druga), ART, Mind the Gap i Way Out. Anna Ottlik graduated with a BA degree in animation at BKF in 2014 and now she is at the masters programme at MOME. A competently measured narrative that balances sadness & humor to the brilliant effect through subtle cinematography and well-crafted rhythm. Može li ljubav biti zamijenjena materijalnim vlasništvom? Gnijezdo je tragikomičan i intiman portret ostarjelog para sa slovačkog sela. Mária i Ján žive u dugovima i popravljaju svoju kuću u nadi da će se njihova djeca jednog dana vratiti živjeti s njima. No, u životu svakog roditelja dođe trenutak kada se moraju suočiti sa strahom od samoće. THE NEST / GNIJEZDO Kristina Leidenfrostová, documentary, 25, Slovakia, 2015. Can be love replaced by material property? The Nest is a tragicomic and intimate portrait of an ageing couple from a slovak countryside. Mária and Ján have been living in debts and repairing their house in hope that their children will come back to live with them again one day. But in every parent s life, there comes a moment when they must face up the fear of being alone. Kristina Leidenfrostová živi u Bratislavi gdje pohađa studij dokumentarnog filma na Akademiji izvedbenih umjetnosti, pod supervizijom Petra Kerekesa. 2015. je završila je preddiplomski studij sa svojim kratkim opservacijskim dokumentarcem Gnijezdo. Based in Bratislava, Kristina Leidenfrostová continues her studies of documentary filmmaking at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, under the supervision of Peter Kerekes. In 2015, she completed the bachelor s degree with her short observational documentary The Nest. STIFF 2016 SPECIAL MENTION / FICTION Masterfully done double perspective of the movie end brings a structural shift to the storytelling creating a completely new view on the action and on the relationships between the characters. This completes the story of the clash of human pettiness and selfishness with a simple struggle for life. Realistic yet touching family story, convincing acting, skillfully build tension and great cinematography. Dvije obitelji posjećuju očeve koji dijele bolničku sobu. Jedna obitelj sebično se svađa oko beznačajnih problema, dok druga ima potpuno drugačiju perspektivu. Cvijeće je za slavlje, ali i za groblje. FLOWERS / CVIJEĆE Judita Gamulin, fiction, 19, Croatia, 2015.. Two families are visiting their fathers that share a room in the hospital. One family is selfishly arguing about their trivial problems, while the other one has a completely different perspective. Flowers are for celebration, but also for the cemetery. Judita Gamulin je rođena 1992. Studentica je diplomskog studija Filmske i televizijske režije na zagrebačkoj Akademiji dramskih umjetnosti. Protekle četiri godine radila je u filmskoj industriji kao skripterica, montažerka te asistentica montaže. Ovo joj je treći kratkometražni film. Snimila je i Daddy issues (2014.) te Minus 4 (2015.). Judita Gamulin is a graduate student of Film and TV Directing at the Zagreb Acaemy of Dramatic Art. For the past four years sha has also worked in film production as a script/continuity supervisor, editor and assistant editor. This is her third short feature. Američki detektiv koji je imao traumatično iskustvo na Aljaski nikako ne može pobjeći duhovima prošlosti. Sada, na rubu ludila, odlučuje se suočiti sa svojim unutarnjim svijetom i stati mu na kraj. An American detective that had experienced a traumatic event in Alaska, can t get himself to move on past the demons of his past. Now, when he is on the verge of insanity, he decides to face his inner world and to put an end to it.. Or Drori i Yarin Kaplan su umjetnici iz Izraela. Oboje su diplomirali na Bezalel akademiji umjetnosti i dizajna gdje su kao svoj diplomski uradak snimili film Aljaska. Or Drori and Yarin Kaplan are Israeli based artists. STIFF 2016 SPECIAL MENTION / DOCUMENTARY In a very skilled, talented and poetic manner, the author uses sound as a narrative along with engaging cinematography and well-measured rhythm. GLANCES OF CLOSED EYES / POGLEDI ZATVORENIH OČIJU Dora Filipović, documentary, 16, Serbia, 2015. U centru ove priče su slijepe i slabovidne osobe koje nas pomoću zvukova upoznaju sa svojim načinom života, te time kako im zvuk pomaže u svakodnevici. Opisani su njihovi osjećaji te po čemu se oni razlikuju od ljudi neoštećenog vida. Zaljubio sam se na prvi zvuk (citat jednog od intervjuiranih). The focus is on blind and visually impaired people who introduce us to their way of life through the help of sound and how sound helps them in their daily lives. It describes their emotions and how they differ from people with sight. I fell in love at first sound (quote taken from interview). Dora Filipović rođena je u Beogradu gdje je diplomirala pri Fakultetu dramskih umjetnosti na Odsjeku za snimanje i zvučni dizajn. Radila je kao dizajner i urednik zvuka na mnogim kratkim i dugometražnim filmovima. Dora Filipović was born in Belgrade where she finished her master studies at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts - Department of Recording and Sound Design.
