Direct-to-Home The delivery of television programs to the home is a business which is constantly changing. Subscribers expect more content, more video quality and more service interactivity. The competition between providers and terrestrial operators is fierce. The result is a higher churn rate and a decreasing ARPU. A positive net increase of subscribers is possible via acquisition campaigns such as subsidisation of customer equipment as an investment. To stay competitive, one of the providers strategies is to enrich their offering by increasing the number of HD programs, and adding SD and 3D channels. To stay profitable, providers are streamlining their activities and reducing operating costs by using satellite equipment enabling a highly efficient use of the satellite capacity. Providers require proven uplink solutions that ensure a high level of availability, video quality and future proof equipment, for example IP-based head-ends. How to maintain quality and availability while going for profitability.

market leader For more than 15 years, Newtec has been a key player, enabling transition to digital distribution of TV channels via satellite. Newtec is revolutionising the Direct-to-Home industry by enabling the distribution of thousands of TV channels to a global audience and particularly to people living in remote areas without terrestrial distribution networks. The DVB-S2 technology offered by Newtec has convinced investors to develop the business. The rapidly growing number of subscribers has quickly supported the creation of a solid industry from satellite launchers to video equipment manufacturers. Today, more than two billion viewers can enjoy watching television thanks to Newtec technology. Exceptional performance and reliability As confirmed by very high ratings in yearly customer surveys, Newtec s products and customer services are trusted and praised for their unequalled reliability and performance. Newtec products include a large number of features that simplify uplink station operations. At Newtec, we know the technology, but above all, we put our customers first by providing dedicated attention to their needs. Deployed Around the world by major brands By concentrating our development on core business activity, Newtec continuously innovates and is able to deliver leading system house products including the latest technologies. We collaborate closely with our partners to offer the market the most advanced and future proof platform.

The Reference on the market As a strong supporter of the DVB standards, Newtec was the very first company to launch DVB-S2 modulators and today is recognised as the Reference in the market. This guarantees interoperability with any brand and model of video encoding platform and with all DVB Settop-boxes. Full (Distributed) Head-End Solutions Newtec offers Head-End Solutions with adapted configurations that include modulators, redundancy schemes, combiners and frequency converters. Significant hardware and power savings can be made in specific implementations for each case. If the multiplexing side is separated from the uplink, the uplink can be fitted with optical or G.703 interfaces. Migration to IP head-end The Newtec AZ100 modulators can be equipped with a TSoIP interface in addition to ASI connectivity. This allows Head-End Solutions to be built that are IP based, avoiding some of the costs related to ASI multiplexing and switching, in addition to lowering operational activities and increasing flexibility. Boosting by Implementing Newtec s Equalink Newtec s Equalink solution allows operators to either save money on space capacity, lower programming cost or simply increase the service offering. Typically a 10 per cent increase in throughput can be established without changing the other system parameters (or set-top boxes), making it possible to upgrade some SD programs to HD or add content. Newtec s Equalink specifically predistorts the signal to match the unique transponder(s) used for the service. In addition more users can be reached on the edges of the satellite footprint, increasing subscriptions and revenue from untapped markets. Increase the service with 2 SD channels or upgrade 2 channels to HD. More users can be reached on the edges of the satellite footprint.

Clever technology for Newtec continuously expands its technology reach to improve services. A Newtec demodulator with NoDe (Noise and Distortion Estimator) can be used to continuously monitor if the optimum operation point of the service is in line with the uplink power. Also, rate adaption and PCR restamping comply with the use of advanced multiplexors to deliver state-of-the-art services. Built to cope with future needs When uplink stations are equipped with Newtec products, providers have the guarantee that they will be able to deliver 3D programs as soon as the strategic decision is made. With the same equipment, Newtec also makes it possible to push forward the boundaries of broadcasting by allowing the use of higher modulation schemes, or for instance the distribution of local content via Ka-band.
