Reader s Log Romeo & Juliet Name: Act: I Scene: i Capulet and Montague servants joke around about fighting and enticing the others to fight Capulet and Montague households fight Prince stops the fight and warns death to anyone who fights again Scene: ii Paris asks Capulet if he can marry Juliet Capulet tells Paris that Juliet is too young; he will have to wait two years. Paris says that girls that are younger than Juliet have already gotten married and already have children Capulet invites Paris to his annual party to get Juliet s attention A capulet servant accidentally invites Romeo to the ball; Romeo reluctantly agrees to go to see Rosaline

Scene: iii Lady Capulet asks Juliet if she will consider marrying Paris. Juliet will think about marrying Paris. Scene: iv Benvolio, Mercutio, and Romeo- wearing masks to to the ball; Romeo is concerned about going because he had a dream. Mercutio says that dreams mean nothing Romeo says one last time that he has a bad feeling about going Scene: v Romeo sees Juliet for the first time and thinks he has never seen anyone so beautiful

Tybalt recognizes Romeo and vows to get even with Romeo for crashing their party Romeo and Juliet kiss and fall in love Act: II Scene: i Romeo goes back to see if he can find Juliet. Mercutio makes fun of Romeo because he thinks Romeo went back to Rosaline. Scene: ii Balcony Scene Love carries Romeo over the wall to Juliet and he sees Juliet at the balcony. Juliet admits to loving Romeo, but that it is going too fast. Juliet states that they need to get married.

Romeo says he will send a message when they will get married. Scene: iii Friar Lawrence s Cell Romeo asks the priest to marry him and Juliet. The Friar agrees because he thinks it will bring the two families together. Friar gives a warning. Scene: iv Benvolio and Mercutio find out that Romeo didn t go home; they think that Romeo is still with Rosaline Learn that Tybalt sent a letter to Romeo challenging him to a dual- They think that Romeo will answer the challenge The nurse meets Romeo and tells him that if he isn t serious about her and he is just playing around it is a terrible thing to do because Juliet is young and innocent

Romeo tells the nurse to send Juliet to Friar Lawrence s cell to go to confession and to get married Scene: v Juliet waits for the nurse to hear about the wedding. The nurse tell her that she will be getting married that afternoon. Scene: vi Romeo waits with Friar Lawrence. Romeo and Juliet get married

Act: III Scene: i Benvolio wants Mercutio and him to leave because the Capulets are around, which could cause trouble. Tybalt insults Romeo and taunts him to fight. Mercutio says he is going to die. Either Romeo or Tybalt will die or they both will. Lady Capulet asks the Prince to kill Romeo. The Prince banishes Romeo, but this is actually to help him. Scene: ii The nurse let Juliet know what has happened to Romeo and Tybalt. Juliet responds to what the nurse has told her about Romeo and Tybalt.

Scene: iii Romeo learns of his banishment; it is equivalent to death. The Friar said that Romeo should be thankful that he is only being banished and not killed. The Friar tells Romeo to go to Juliet and then to Mantua. He said that he would let everyone know that they are married to hopefully calm the Prince down. This would allow Rome to come back from Mantua to be with Juliet. Scene: iv Capulet has agreed to the marriage of Paris and Juliet.

Scene: v Romeo and Juliet spend the night together. When he leaves the next morning, Juliet says she has a really bad feeling. Juliet is told by Lady Capulet that she will marry Paris. Juliet refuses to marry Paris. She says she would rather marry her enemy Romeo. Lord Capulet threatens Juliet. He states that if she doesn t marry Paris she will no longer be acknowledged as his daughter. Act: IV Scene: i Juliet goes to the Friar for help and threatens to kill herself if he doesn t help her. The Friar has a plan, but it is dangerous.. The Friar gives her a vial of potion to drink to appear dead.

Scene: ii Juliet asks her father for forgiveness and states that she will marry Paris. Capulet is happy. The entire city is in the Friar s debt for taking care of this problem. Scene: iii Juliet says goodnight to Lady Capulet. Juliet questions the potion, but drinks it anyway and goes to sleep. Scene: iv Nurse, Lord and Lady Capulet prepare for Paris and Juliet s wedding..

Scene: v Juliet is found dead by the nurse. Wedding plans turn to funeral plans. Act: V Scene: i Balthasar tells Romeo that Juliet is dead. Romeo goes to an apothecary for poison. It is illegal to sell poison, but the apothecary agrees to sell it to Romeo because the apothecary is poor and needs the money.

Scene: ii Friar John was unable to get Romeo the letter. Friar Lawrence will write another letter to Romeo. Friar Lawrence goes to the tomb so he can be with Juliet when she wakes up. Scene: iii Paris goes to Juliet s tomb to put flowers on her grave and Romeo goes to the tomb to see Juliet. Romeo and Paris fight, and Paris dies. Romeo says goodbye to Juliet and drinks the poison. Juliet wakes up, sees Romeo and kills herself. Friar tells the whole story and prepares to be punished. Capulet and Montague agree to build gold statues in honor of Romeo and Juliet.
