Escambia County Celebrate Literacy Week Plan--Secondary School Monday, January 22 Tuesday, January 23 Wednesday, January 24 Thursday, January 25 Friday, January 26 Bailey Bellview Goal 1: Book Swap starts - Students bring in a book and get a ticket to come and get a different book on Friday. Goal 2: Book Collage (done by Media Assistants) will be displayed with six famous book characters for students to find. Prizes awarded on Friday. Goal 3: All students in Reading and ELA will be signed into Beanstack. Will be used on Wednesday. Goal 4: Teachers can sign up for Book Poetry today. Books will be placed on various tables and students must create a poem out of the book titles using spines. Book Swap, Book Collage, Teacher s Favorite Book, Beanstack Media Mania Monday-- students will submit photos of them reading and awards will be given in a variety of categories. Teen Choice Awards-- students vote for their favorite book. Goal 5: Teachers can sign up for Illustrate or create text for a book. Using old books to glue words in test booklets and illustrate the book. Goal 6: Read and record on Beanstack. Top class wins a prize today! Wordy Wednesday--entire school will wear scrabble pieces. Teachers will provide activities for students to create a variety of words throughout the day. Goal 7: Guess your teachers favorite - Teachers pictures will be taken with their favorite book (hidden cover) and students guess the book. Will be on bulletin board outside (15-20 teacher pics) Goal 8: Crazy Book Socks and Hat Day - wear your characters socks and hats Thinking Map Thursday--During Compass, teachers will complete a read aloud and students will complete thinking maps. Prize awarded to the class with the most unique thinking map. Family Night Bingo for Books will be held after school. Goal 9: Book Swap Exchange - Come and get your gently used book. Goal 10: Announce the winner for minutes read on Beanstack and winner of Teacher s favorite books Literacy Quilt continued all week. Bellview is Well Read Day-- Students and staff will wear red to represent that they are well read. "The View Finder": throughout the week, Bell "view" faculty will be on the lookout for students caught reading. Those students will receive a ticket to place in the View Master in the cafeteria. The contest will run throughout the entire week till Thursday. Thursday morning, 20 names will be drawn, and those students will be invited to "The View' snack bar on Friday for "Foodie Friday." Students who are "caught reading" will have their picture taken and placed on the "View Finder" Wall of Fame. Spirit Night at Texas Roadhouse on Monday, January 21st will jump start our literacy week. Teacher "Guess Who" game will be posted in the hallway. Teachers will have their picture taken with their favorite book in front of their face and the students and teachers will need to guess the teacher.

Students will be involved in collecting books for our Free Little Library that will make its debut during Literacy Week to promote their love of literacy to families and the community. Ernest Ward Annual Book Quilt, Who's Reading What Contest 1. Play a video recorded of a guest Doctor from the community reading from a chapter book that we will promote. We will choose a book that has a catchy chapter 1. We will push the idea "Leaders Read." We will play the recording on CCTV during homeroom. 2. History classes, history teachers will discuss the genre of "biographies" and then read a summary of their favorite biography. 1. Play recording on CCTV of a guest Pastor from the community reading next portion of the chapter book. 2. Science teachers will discuss the genre of science fiction and read the summary of a sci-fi book they enjoy in the Science classes. 1. Play recording on CCTV of a guest Teacher from their elementary school reading the next portion of the chapter to air in the morning. 2. In math classes, teachers will discuss the mystery genre and then read a summary of their favorite mystery book. Guest readers that read portions of a chapter book whose title will be revealed at the end of the week. 1. Play recording on CCTV of a guest community COACH, who will read the next segment of the book. 4. Elective classes will discuss the genre of poetry and read their favorite poem. 1. Play recording of final part of chapter 1 of our selected book. The guest will be a military veteran. Then we will reveal the title of the book! 2. Language Arts classes will rotate through the library to do a speed-reading activity where students "date a book" for a few minutes and then check a book out at the end. Poem in your pocket: Students are encouraged to bring poems in their pockets and share with friends/teachers. If they get caught sharing, they will earn Special Rocket Rewards!

4. Get caught Reading! During classroom walk throughs, Admin will give out Special Rocket Rewards to students who are caught reading anytime other than the designated 15 minutes in ELA. 5.
