Document-8677 Release No. Beam Commissioning of GRIFFIN Beam Line Release Date: 5//5 Abstract In this note we briefly report the beam development test conducted for ISAC-GRIFFIN beamline. Main objective is to demonstrate/develop a tune with calculated optical settings. Measured beam profiles and current readings at various locations are presented. Method We have used beams from OLIS-MWS (see Table ) for the beam development through the GRIFFIN beamline (see Fig. ). Quadrupoles from ILEB:Q6 to ILEB:Q are used to focus the beam at the location of slit ILEB:XYSLIT and the quadrupoles ILEB:Q to ILEB:Q6 images the beam spot from ILEB:XYSLIT (i.e., focus-toparallel-to-focus) to the target location (ILEB:FC8). A detail beam optics note can be found in Ref. [] and a detailed beamline commissioning report can be found in Ref. []. For an initial emittance of ε = µm the calculated full width (horizontal and vertical) of the beam spot at the location of the slit ILEB:XYSLIT is. mm ( RMS) and at the location of slit ILEB:XYSLIT is. mm ( RMS). We begin the tune by setting all the optical elements (from IOS:Q6 to ILEB:Q6) to the calculated values. Ion source OLIS-MWS IOS:Bias 8 V IOS:EE V IOS:MB Current. A IOS:MB Field 55.5 G IOS:MB M/Q. Document-8677 Release No. Beam Commissioning of GRIFFIN Beam Line Release Date: 5//5 Measured beam profiles by RPM (ILE:RPM9, ILE:RPM, ILE:RPM) in the period section (ILE) are shown in Fig.. The measured beam size ( RMS) in the periodic section was around.5 mm and β = m for a matched beam through the periodic section. From the beam size and β value the estimated beam emittance through this section was ε µm. The ILEB section was re-optimized for the estimated emittance of ε µm and the calculated quadrupole settings were used to transport the beam through the ILEB section (tune 5-8.snapiosgriffin). Calculated beam envelope and the measured beam size by the RPMs are shown in Fig.. Measured beam currents in the ILEB section are shown in Table. The transmission from ILEB:FC6 to ILEB:FC8 was around 8 % with slit ILEB:XYSLIT at 5 mm and slit ILEB:XYSLIT at 7 mm. The diameter of the collimator (ILEB:COL8ACI) is 5 mm. The ratio of current readings at ILEB:COL8ACI to ILEB:FC8 was less than 5 %. The measured beam profiles in the ILEB section are shown in Fig.. 8 ILE:RPM9 7 6 5.5.5 (a) ILE:RPM9.5 ILE:RPM 5 ILE:RPM.5.5.5.5.5.5.5 (b) ILE:RPM (c) ILE:RPM Figure : Measured beam profiles (Horizontal profile left blue curve and vertical profile right blue curve) by using RPMs. 5 55 Template: Document-887 Rel.
