Community POWER Project The Washington District Library at Five Points is working to reunite thousands of photos recovered after November 17, 2013, that remain unclaimed. The collection contains both recent and historical images, many of which are irreplaceable mementos. The staff and volunteers behind this effort request the entire community s assistance in this endeavor. Please take time to help identify items by viewing the public photo albums on the Facebook page Found Items from the Washington Illinois and Diamond Illinois Tornadoes and by encouraging those affected to do the same. This important effort requires your support and involvement to complete the mission of reuniting all items with the owners.
Christmas in Washington 2014 Ornament Now Available Christmas is near and you can purchase a keepsake for the season with a Christmas in Washington 2014 Ornament. The ornament was designed, made and distributed by Academy of Screenprinting & Awards owners Mike and Debbie Hallar, residents of Washington. The ornaments are only available for purchase at Michael s Italian Feast and Russell s Cycle & Fitness. All profits will be divided and donated to Bethany Community Church and Crossroads United Methodist Church. Christmas On School Street The Seventh Annual Christmas on School Street craft event will be held on December 6, 2014. The event hosted by Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church is looking for artist and crafters to participate. The event will be held at the Childcare Center from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Rental fee is $25 for one table and $15 for each additional table. Tables will be provided. Christmas Walk Home Tour 2014 The 29th A n n u a l C h r i s t m a s Walk Home Tour will be featuring five homes of varying ages in Washington, IL, all decked out for the Christmas season! The tour is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9, 2014 and will have two tour times running from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Refreshments and an Art Exhibit will be available at St. Mark s Lutheran Church, provided by the Washington Fine Arts Society. Tickets go on sale now and are available at Studio 901, Kimpling s Ace Hardware, Homespun and Washington Chamber of Commerce for $12 presale and $15 the day of tour. Join the Washington Specialty Shops for an Old Fashion Candlelight Stroll On the Square in Washington. There will be free carriage rides from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. sponsored by the Specialty Shops. The kids can also visit with Santa at Denhart s Washington Room from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Bring your camera for pictures. Everyone can join in the lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Square at 6:30 p.m. with the Courier Community Christmas Sing to follow. Santa s Mailbox is on the corner by Denhart s. All letters with return addresses that are received by December 15, 2014 will be answered by Santa. All the Specialty Shops and Restaurants will be open until 8:00 p.m. for your shopping pleasure.
