Memoir Anthology Project OK so you ve written your personal memoir. Now what? Create a memoir anthology! What is it? A memoir anthology is a collection of memoirs on similar themes. Your anthology will be completed in groups of 4-6 based on the themes of your memoirs. Your anthology will include: A cover including: - front: artwork, title, authors names (10) - back: blurb and review quotes (35) A title page including a tag cloud (20) Forward explaining the connections between the memoirs included in the anthology (50) Word Art portraits of each contributing author (20 each) Completed Memoirs (separate grade) Found poem for each memoir (50 each) Commercial advertising your book (30 seconds) (50) What do I do? Your group will assign people to the following jobs: Head Editor: organizes work, creates table of contents, and oversees work of other group members Technical Advisor (1-2): responsible for creating printed aspects of the project (black and white portrait guide, tag cloud, etc.) Portrait Artist (1-2): takes pictures of group and prepares Word Art portraits Marketing Executive: Prepares the cover (front and back) including back blurb, review quotes, and artwork; designs, films, and edits commercial

Marketing Executive Complete advertising portions of the anthology Assist other group members in completing assignments Write a Found Poem for your own Memoir Cover: Front: On the front cover of your anthology, you should include the names of all of your group members with their jobs (see back for more details). You should also include EITHER hand-drawn OR computer-generated artwork appropriate to your overall topic. Your group should also create a title for your anthology (NOT Memoir Anthology!) Back: Write a blurb a brief summary of the book s contents (it needs to be at least one good paragraph!). You should also write 3-5 review quotes (make them up!) Cover: Front: Artwork /5 points Title /3 points Team Member Names /2 points Back: Blurb /26 points Quotes (3) /3 points each (9) /45 points Commercial: Commercial should be 20-30 seconds /15 points Commercial should explain why someone would read your anthology /20 points Commercial should be interesting/engaging /15 points /50 points

Head Editor (Checklist & Grading Rubric) Oversee work of group members Keep work in one organized place (either you keep it or chose a responsible group member) Meet with teacher for updates and concerns/questions Assembles Final Anthology Write a Found Poem for your own Memoir Assignments Table of Contents (last thing to complete) List each memoir by title & author (with page numbers) Include Title Page Include Forward POSSIBLE /10 points Title Page (Your title page should include the information from your cover) Information Tag Cloud /10 points /10 points /20 points * You can create Tag Clouds using www.wordle.net or www.tagxedo.com

Technical Advisor Complete any technical work (anything involving computers, ipods, ipads, cameras, etc.) Assist other group members in completing tasks Write a Found Poem for your own memoir Assignments: Word Art Portraits (you do not receive points for this part, but the Portrait Artist needs this to do his or her work) - Take photos of each group member - Load pictures into Comic Life or Photo Editor and turn into a black/white portrait guide (see example) - Print Portrait guides Create Tag Cloud for Title Page (Collaborate with Head Editor) Write Forward Explain why those memoirs are deliberately paired /15 points Explain the reasons for the title you have chosen /10 points Compare/Contrast the Memoirs in the anthology /25 points /50 points

Portrait Artist Complete the hand-drawn artwork for the project Assists other group members with work completion Write a Found Poem for your own Memoir Word Art Portraits: Before you begin: - You will need the Portrait Guides from the Technical Advisor - Ask each group member to write 5-7 words or short phrases that describe him or her Each Word Art portrait is worth 20 points AVERAGE /20 points
