Sony Surveillance VCR IN THE FIELDS of security and surveillance, video monitoring systems never sleep running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Keeping a permanent record of events and alarms requires specialized VCRs, and the expanding range of Sony surveillance products now includes six models. The family of VCRs divides into two categories: analogue time-lapse and digital time-lapse. The four analogue models each have a unique set of features to suit different surveillance applications. The digital time-lapse recorders, the HSR-1P and HSR-2P, use the advantages of digital recording to provide outstanding picture quality and enhanced functionality. Digital time-lapse video recorders HSR-1P and HSR-2P digital time-lapse video recorders THE ADVANTAGES of digital recording over analogue recording include superb picture quality due to a consistently high signal to noise ratio (48 db) and higher refresh rates which results in more shots recorded. The Sony HSR-1P and HSR-2P offer all of these advantages plus a unique hybrid recording system. The HSR-1P and HSR-2P use both a hard disk drive (HDD) and a DV (Digital Video) tape drive for storage. The image data is first recorded onto the HDD and is then transferred to the DV tape, which can store up to 60 GB. Due to the large storage capacity of the DV tape, the HSR-1P and HSR-2P are ideal for archiving your video simultaneously while recording. This "hybrid" approach to recording has two major advantages. The first advantage is reduced maintenance. Because the DV tape drive works only while recording the image data being transferred from the HDD, the tape transport and heads are stationary most of the time. Power Consumption HSRA-11 (Input Board) SVRM-100A (Remote Control Unit) SNT-V304 (Video Network Station) 10 kg 355 (W) x 125 (H) x 410 (D) mm 58 W (without options) 78 W (with full options) This significantly reduces the need for head maintenance. The second advantage is multiple protection. In the unlikely event that the DV tape drive fails, recording continues onto the HDD. Conversely, if the HDD fails, recording continues on the DV tape. Thanks to digital recording, excellent picture quality can be kept the same between DV tape and HDD. As for the HSR-2P, it offers increased recording capacity on a much larger HDD (20 GB) and the ability to playback-during-recording. Moreover, full remote control of the HSR-1P or HSR-2P over a LAN or WAN is possible with the optional SNT-V304 Video Network Station. Features Excellent picture quality of more than 500 TV lines (Super mode) Large storage capacity (more than 60 GB) and long recording time by using the supplied DV cassette tape (270 minutes) as a storage medium Hybrid configuration of HDD and DV tape drive Playback-during-recording (HSR-2P only) Large HDD capacity (more than 4 GB for HSR-1P, more than 20 GB for HSR-2P) Network capability with SNT-V304 Video Network Server Four alternative quality modes: Super, High, Middle and Low High refresh rate for the recording of each camera Up to 16 camera inputs available with optional HSRA-11 input boards Built-in multiplexing capability allowing independent recording and monitoring of up to 16 camera inputs RS-232C interface for PC control Freely configurable 37-pin parallel port Continuous recording function, even while changing or rewinding the tape Watermark Intelligent search functions: time/date search, alarm search, specific user data search via PC control and noiseless picture search Pre alarm recording capability for event recording
Analogue time-lapse video recorders SONY offers an extensive line-up of analogue time-lapse VCRs, allowing you to choose the VCR to best fit the application at hand. /72P/S168P feature Reality Regenerator to reproduce noiseless, more accurate pictures during playback. Available on the is RealAction technology which allows high-density recording for faster refresh rates compared to conventional SP (Standard Play) based timelapse VCRs. The SVT-S168P offers S-VHS format for high quality pictures. All Sony SVT Series time-lapse VCRs offer many recording and alarm features including auto repeat, timer recording and alarm recording. Built-in protective features such as recording check and power failure protection maximize reliability. Moreover, all SVT Series VCRs can be remotely controlled using the SVT-RM10 remote control unit. No matter what your needs, the Sony SVT time-lapse VCRs can help meet them in a cost effective way. Technologies for analogue time-lapse VCRs Reality Regenerator (R2) (/72P/S168P) The Reality Regenerator improves upon the conventional sharpness control function. While sharpness control makes outlines sharper in the reproduced picture, a side effect of this feature is that it artificially enhances outline edges and increases noise. The result is an unnatural, noisy picture. Reality Regenerator minimizes these side effects by reproducing a video signal very similar to the original. This is achieved by first detecting the edge of the playback signal, separating it into three parts (right, left and centre), and then adding the new signal to the playback signal. The result is very little noise and more accurate picture reproduction during playback. Original picture After recording and playback under VHS format Edge becomes fuzzy Conventional Sharpness control Restored edge Almost no noise and natural waveform Noise throughout picture RealAction Recording () features high-density recording because of RealAction technology. For example, conventional time-lapse VCRs record only 5.5 fields per second in 24-hour recording mode. However, Sony RealAction technology allows recording of 16.6 fields per second - three times as much information. This recording density provides smooth, natural recording even of fast moving objects. RealAction recording 16.6 fields/s Normal time-lapse recording 5.5 fields/s Artificial enhancement at edge
Why time-lapse recording? How time-lapse VCRs work Conventional VCRs record 50 fields per second. Time-lapse VCRs however record fewer fields per second, giving a longer recording on a single tape. The number of fields recorded per second depends on the time setting. The longer the recording time, the fewer the number of pictures recorded per second on the tape. Why time-lapse VCRs are used in surveillance By recording fewer fields per second time-lapse VCRs conserve storage capacity tape. Tape changes is increased and greatly maintenance because are an greatly entire reduced day or even because a week an can entire be day, recorded week, or on even a single a month 180-minute can be tape. recorded on a single To avoid 180-minute missing any tape. critical To avoid information missing any between critical recorded information fields, between time-lapse recorded fields, VCRs are time-lapse able to VCRs switch are to different able to switch to recording different modes recording as necessary. modes as For necessary. example For if example an alarm if is an detected, alarm is detected, the time-lapse VCR can switch into a a different recording mode that that captures a greater number of fields per second. RealAction or EP (Extended Play) based time-lapse VCRs vs. SP based time-lapse VCRs The choice between EP (RealAction) and SP based time-lapse VCRs often depends on the user s preference between high-density recording and higher picture quality. While EP allows for faster refresh rates than SP, the picture quality of SP is better than EP. Sony offers one EP and three SP based time-lapse VCRs, to maximize your choice.
