Programme card PROGRAMME CARD CARD READER* * embedded NDS is equipped with a card reader for the downloaded (embedded) coding system. CARD READER Insert the programme card with the gold-coloured contact surface facing to the right, as shown on the label on the front of the receiver. The alarm lamp will remain on until an updated programme card is inserted, when it will automatically switch off. THE NDS SYSTEM VIDEOGUARD The programme card must be paired to the receiver before the card can be updated and a picture seen. Contact the programme supplier for pairing the card and receiver. The receiver s unique ID number (STB ID) can be found in the Information menu, see page 15. IMPORTANT: When receiving free channels, Free To Air, the programme card must be removed from the card reader. DISABLING WATCHDOG To speed up start up and update of the programme card, the Watchdog function can be temporarily disabled using the Information menu, see page 17. Procedure: When the receiver has locked on to the right channel press the Right button 11 times. Choose YES for Temporary disable Watchdog. When the card has been updated, the Watchdog function will be activated automatically. 5

Programming buttons Button lock When the button lock is activated, a key symbol is shown in the display. It can be de-activated by pressing the MENU and ENTER buttons at the same time for approximately 2 seconds. The is programmed using the Menu, Enter, Up, Down, Right and Left buttons and the display. In order to programme the digital receiver correctly, it must be switched on and receiving a satellite signal. See menu tree on page 7 for available menu options. Programming All programming is carried out using the display and the buttons on the front of the. When the receiver is in use, the buttons on the front are locked by a button lock. This is shown by a symbol in the upper left-hand corner of the display. The lock is de-activated by pressing the MENU and ENTER buttons at the same time for approximately 2 seconds. Calculation example for the middle frequency A satellite channel with frequency of 12 054 and an LNB with L.O. 10 600 MF = 12 054 10 600 = 1454, which is the frequency to be set. POLARISATION Use the Up/Down buttons to select the desired polarity, H/V. IMPORTANT! When using a Quatro LNB the polarity must be set to H (= horizontal) to ensure reliable function. ENTER TRANS SYMBOL 24500 Tip! 00000 offers automatic searching of symbol rate. Channels with low symbol rates are often easier to find if the search is carried out in the automatic mode. Remember that in the automatic searching mode it takes longer to find the channels. Continue on page 11 if the modulator has not been installed. BUILT-IN MODULATOR When the built-in modulator has been installed in the the following menu options will be automatically activated. They are marked (Modulator) and are shown in the display during programming. FREQ (Modulator) Select desired output channel frequency (47 860 MHz) according to CCIR, see list on page 23. Use the Up/Down buttons to specify a number. Use the Left/Right buttons to move between numbers. MODULATOR FREQ. 474.25 9

DEPTH (Modulator) Select modulator depth, available settings 72,5 90. Recommended setting (75%) Use the Up/Down buttons to select modulator depth. ENTER SOUND LANGUAGE Swedish LANGUAGE subtitles 1 Use the Up/Down buttons to select the desired language. ENTER SUBT. LANG. 1 Swedish LANGUAGE subtitles 2 Use the Up/Down buttons to select the desired language. ENTER SUBT. LANG. 2 English NOTE! Two subtitle settings can be chosen. If the first choice is not available the receiver will select subtitles 2 (LANG. 2). 11

CHANNEL SEARCHING After adjusting the settings for the desired transponder, a channel search can be carried out. The QPSK lock (yellow LED) will shine with a constant light if the receiver locates channels. If the alarm (red LED) lights up, the installation and settings must be checked. ENTER Select YES and press the Enter button to start the channel search. The display indicates that the search is in progress. After completion a menu will appear showing all the channels found on the transponder. Select NO to set the PID, see page 18. START TRANS SCAN YES Use the Up/Down buttons to select a desired channel. ENTER Press the Enter button and the desired channel will be saved. If an updated programme card*, see page 5, has been inserted, the channel will be displayed on the TV screen. IMPORTANT: PIDs are only to be used if problems are encountered when trying to find a desired channel and no information is available for picture, sound and text. SCANNING... PLEASE WAIT CHOOSE CHAN. CHANGING CHANNEL Changing to another channel within the transponder can easily be done using the buttons on the front of the. Information All information is monitored from the display except card information, which is shown on the TV screen. De-activate the button lock by pressing the MENU and ENTER buttons at the same time for approximately 2 seconds. BER Bit Error Rate Press the Right button to see information on BER beforeorrection. -04/-08 Indicates that the signal quality is adequate. BER 1.5E-7 SIGNAL 75% -03 Operating limit for sound and pictures. -02 Indicates that the signal quality is inadequate. Press the Right button to move to the next menu option. BER 1.5E-3 EB/NO 35% EB/NO Indicates the quality of the received signal. The value is shown together with the BER value and Wait is displayed until the value is calculated. 0-40 Inadequate (approx. 0 4 db) 40-70 Adequate, but not good (approx. 5 9 db) BER 1.5E-7 SIGNAL 90% 70-90 Good (approx. 10 12 db) 90-100 Very good (approx. 13 15 db) BER 1.5E-3 EB/NO 35% 13

LOG FILE A log file is created in connection with any errors. A number of different types of error can be logged in the file, see page 19. Press the Right button twice. ENTER Press the Enter button. Use the Up/Down buttons to move within the log file. VIEW LOG 1 ENTRIES MENU Press the Menu button to return to the Information menu. Press the Right button to move to the next menu option. DELETE LOG FILE All information stored in the log file can be deleted. Press the Right button three times. ENTER Press the Enter button. Press YES or NO by using the Up/Down buttons ENTER Press the Enter button again. Press the Right button to move to the next menu option. CLEAR LOG 1 ENTRIES CLEAR ERROR LOG YES 14

CARD INFORMATION When card information is activated, a menu will be displayed on the TV screen and different options can be chosen. Press the Right button four times. ENTER Press the Enter button and after a few seconds the menu will appear on the TV screen. Select a function using the Up/Down ENTER buttons and press the Enter button. CA CONTROL CARD OK NDS MENU Press the Menu button to return to the Information menu. Press the Right button to move to the next menu option. CARD INFORMATION DISPLAYED ON TV IMPORTANT! Remember to connect the receiver to equipment with a TV screen as all card information is shown as a TV picture. BOX INFO + OSD on screen display This menu shows information about the box. It is important to note the STB ID before you ring the programme supplier to match the programme card and the receiver. The OSD can be activated in this menu to verify the receiver settings. Press the Right button five times to read the box information. ENTER Press the Enter button to activate the OSD menu. MENU Press the Menu button to deactivate the OSD menu. OUT LVL (Modulator) The output level can be set to 0 99 which gives between 60 80dBµV. Press the Right button six times. Use the Up/Down buttons to specify a number. MODULATOR OUT. LVL 90 Use the Left/Right buttons to move between the numbers. IMPORTANT! Set the output level as high as possible and reduce to desired level to the network using the amplifier. This will provide the best performance in the cable TV network. AUDIO LEVEL It is possible to change the audio level from 12 dbm to +6dBm, in 2 dbm steps. Use the Up/Down buttons to select desired level. The factory setting is 0 dbm. Press the Right button seven times. Use the Up/Down buttons to select desired audio level. Press the Right button to move to the next menu option. AUDIO LEVEL CURRENT 0 dbm SUBTITLE transparency There are five settings for the transparency of the background, from 0% transparency to till 100%. (Factory setting 50%) Press the right button eight times. Use the Up/Down buttons to select the required transparency. SUBTITLE TRANSP 50% Press the Right button to move to the next menu option. 16

SUBTITLE position There are six settings for the subtitle position (upwards/downwards) from 0 to 5. (Factory setting 2) Press Right button nine times. Use the Up/Down buttons to select the required position. SUBTITLE POSITION 2 Press the Right button to move to the next menu option. 16/9 FORMAT 16/9 format can be switched on or off. Remember that if the 16/9 format is switched on, then the picture on a 4/3 TV will not be correct. Press Right button ten times. Use the Up/Down buttons to select the required format. TV FORMAT 16:9 OFF Press the Right button to move to the next menu option disable watchdog temporarily If YES is chosen, the receiver will not be reset. This function is used for a quicker update of the programme card. If NO is chosen, the receiver will be reset every 60 seconds until the programme card has been updated. Press Right button eleven times. Use the Up/Down buttons to select the required setting. Press the Right button to return to the Channel menu. SMARTCARD UPDATE TEMPORARY DISABLE WATCHDOG NO Important! When the card has been updated the watchdog function will be activated automatically. 17

PID setting PID setting is only to be used by advanced users if the auto search function fails. To set the V-PID, A-PID, PCR-PID and Text-PID, the PID tables in the channel lists must be converted into HEX. PCR-PID is compulsory information, (it is often the same as V-PID for TV channels and A-PID for radio channels). Text-PID is not compulsory in order to receive sound and pictures, please enter 0000 instead. SEARCHING FOR CHANNELS PID = PACKET ID MENU Press the Menu button. Then press the Next button until NEXT the Start Trans Scan menu appears. Select NO for PID setting. START TRANS SCAN NO Use the Left/Right and Up/Down buttons to set the required PID. 18

Error log Displays the number of the error in question in the log file. ERROR LOG 100:03 Time N/A QPSK LOCK Displays the reason for the error, showing number and text, see below. ERROR LOG 100:03 Time N/A QPSK LOCK Some errors are displayed showing time and date of occurrence. ERROR LOG 100:03 Time N/A QPSK LOCK IMPORTANT: Some errors can create a number of different error messages, depending on the cause of the error. If the programme card is removed, the receiver will be reset every sixty seconds and the log file will record errors until the card is inserted again.
