THE NEW JERSEY MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION PROUDLY PRESENTS THE 2019 ALL-STATE INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA DEAR DIRECTOR/SPONSOR, Congratulations to your Junior Region Orchestra members who have now qualified to audition for the New Jersey All-State Intermediate Orchestra. This application includes all the necessary information to apply. Your students acceptances into the group via an audition will be a great achievement and will further enhance their musical development. Auditions will take place at John P. Stevens HS, 855 Grove Ave., in Edison. ELIGIBLE STUDENTS ARE GRADES 6, 7, AND 8 IN REGIONS 2 AND 3, AND GRADES 7, 8, AND 9 IN REGION 1. 9 th GRADE STUDENTS FROM REGION 1 MAY CHOOSE TO AUDITION FOR EITHER ALL-STATE INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA OR THE HIGH SCHOOL ALL-STATE ORCHESTRA, BUT NOT BOTH.

AUDITION DATE: Saturday, March 16, 2019 Directors Meeting 8:45 AM The snow date for auditions will be Saturday, March 23, 2019 AUDITION SITE: JP Stevens HS, 855 Grove Ave., Edison STUDENT ONLINE APPLICATION DEADLINE: The online student application will close at midnight on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019. AUDITION FEE: $20.00. Student signature page and fee should be given to the sponsoring director according to their directions so these forms and one director s check can be mailed by the deadline of Wednesday, February 27, 2019. ENSEMBLE SCHEDULE: NJ ALL-STATE INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA (locations TBD) Sat. April 13 12:30-5:30PM Rehearsal Sat., May 4 12:30-5:30PM Re-seating auditions and rehearsal Sat., May 11 12:30-5:30PM Rehearsal Sat., May 18 10:30AM Dress Rehearsal 3:00PM Concert STUDENT APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: All student applications must be completed using the All State Intermediate Orchestra Audition Application Instruction Letter link on the NJMEA website. All of the necessary information is included in the instruction letter. If a student is auditioning on more than one instrument, the student must have qualified for their respective Region Junior Orchestra on that instrument and must submit a SEPARATE application and fee for each instrument. When students complete online registration, they will receive an email confirmation of the information submitted. Students who complete an online application will be directed to a signature page that they are to complete and give to you with their application fee.

DIRECTOR/SPONSOR INSTRUCTIONS: In order for students to audition and participate in the 2019 NJ All-State Intermediate Orchestra, students must be accepted and fulfill all requirements of their respective 2018-19 HS Region Junior Orchestras and presently be in grades 6,7, or 8 for Regions 2 and 3, and grades 6,7,8,9 for Region 1. 1. Students must submit to you the signature page and fee for each instrument. THESE TWO ITEMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IF MAILED DIRECTLY FROM STUDENTS. Students may audition on more than one instrument provided they qualified on both in their Region Orchestra. 2. Complete the director/sponsor online form by Feb. 27 th, print and attach a copy of the information side only of your NAfME card, expiration date March 16, 2019 or later, and mail together with your student signature pages and payment by school or your personal check, not student checks (parent checks WILL NOT be accepted). If your membership is not up to date, contact NAfME to renew and have them e-mail you a confirmation letter. Mail it with your applications or forward the e-mail to the audition chairperson. All directors/sponsors must fulfill judging assignments/duties assigned by the audition chairperson/committee in order for your students to audition. IMPORTANT: You or your designated substitute MUST be available for March 16 th. If this is not possible, please do not register students as they will not be eligible to audition. You may request an alternate assignment, but there is no promise of that occurring. A substitute is acceptable provided that person is a music teacher, a member of NAfME, and not sponsoring students from their own jurisdiction. Substitutes must be arranged in advance, unless an emergency occurs, by contacting the audition chairperson. Substitutes must also submit an online director/sponsor form. 4. The confirmation list with audition times will be e-mailed to you by Tuesday, Mar. 12 th. If you do not receive the list by that date, please contact the audition chairperson. Please do not staple checks to forms as I have to remove each one. For personal checks or money orders, please write the school name on the memo line. No cash will be accepted. An application will be considered complete only when all of the above has been received and your online registration is submitted. DO NOT MAIL ANYTHING REQUIRING A CONFIRMATION SIGNATURE AS ALL MAIL GOES TO A POST OFFICE THAT IS NOT EASILY ACCESSIBLE. Application signature pages and payments postmarked after Feb. 27, 2019 will not be accepted. Registrations are not accepted on day of auditions. Audition Day Information: The director s meeting will begin at 8:45 AM at JP Stevens HS in Edison. If you are sending a substitute, please be sure they get a copy of this letter. There will be coffee, doughnuts, and bagels at 8:30 AM and lunch will be provided for directors. Please arrive on time as audition rooms cannot open until all judges are in place.

Student registration will be open from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Students arriving after 1:00pm will not be permitted to audition (violins scheduled after 2PM may register up to 2PM). All rooms must remain open until the end of registration. Students must have an original copy of the solo with them at the auditions. Any student who purchased a copy of the required solo online and printed an online solo must have a receipt of purchase with him/her at the audition. However, students may play from their marked copy of the solo as long as they have the original in the room with them. The student use of all electronic and/or mechanical devices is prohibited in all NJMEA audition rooms. All judges must be available and remain until your assignment has concluded (4:00 PM at the latest). Please do not plan to leave early unless approved by the chairperson as adjudicators may not change one the auditions begin. Questions of eligibility and procedure should be handled by you as determined by your region president. It is important that you are aware of and follow the registration instructions so your students are able to participate in the audition. The March 16 th audition is for membership. Re-seating auditions based on the orchestra repertoire will take place on May 4 th. Both scores will be combined for final seating arrangements.
