Control Panel Detail SP02 Tape Feeder Control Panel Detail Panel Cover Decrease Pitch Pitch Display Increase Pitch Status Light Forward Feed Single Hole Feed Reverse Feed Decrease Pitch Index When pressed, the pitch setting will decrease by 1 ( equivalent to 4mm). Pitch Display Represents the distance the tape will advance in 4mm increments. The setting is calculated by multiplying numbers shown by 4mm. Increase Pitch When pressed, the pitch setting will increase by 1 ( equivalent to 4mm). Status Light RED FLASH = feeder in tape jam error mode. GREEN = during advance or reverse YELLOW = stand by - power on OFF = power off Forward Feed Advances tape in distance equal to pitch setting. Single Hole Feed Reverse Feed When pressed and held in while tapping either the Forward Feed or Reverse Feed buttons, the feeder advances or retracts 2mm respectively. Retracts tape in distance equal to pitch setting. NOTE Always complete a reverse motion by performing a final forward move to set component final location 1
Loading the Tape Feeder SP02 Tape Feeder Loading & Operation Place the tape reel into the basket so that the tape feeds off from the top of the reel. Pull the end of the tape over the Basket Support under the Guide Roller towards the front of the feeder. Guide Roller Basket Support To properly load the feeder, the cover tape must be peeled back from the first 15 inches of the carrier tape. Cover Tape Carrier Tape 15 in NOTE : Hover-Davis can provide mylar cover tape leaders that will extend the beginning length of the cover tape eliminating the need to waste components. 2
SP02 Tape Feeder Loading & Operation Window Operation Pivot the Window Lock Lever disengaging the locking tab from the small notch in the Tape Window. Slide the Tape Window slightly forward to disengage the latch hook. Then lift the Tape Window open. Feed the tape underneath the Tape Window being careful to align the component pockets of the carrier tape into the channel on the feeder. Window Lock Lever Carrier Tape 3
Window Operation (continued) SP02 Tape Feeder Loading & Operation Feed the cover tape up through the opening in the tape window. Slide the end of the carrier tape down into the exit guide. Tape Window Cover Tape Exit Guide Carrier Tape Swing the Tape Window closed making sure that the holes on the carrier tape have engaged the teeth on the tooth plate. Slide the Tape Window back to engage the latch locking the Tape Window closed. 4
SP02 Tape Feeder Loading & Operation Splice Engine Operation Feed the cover tape back from the Tape Window into the Splice Engine, being careful not to place twists into the cover tape, and making sure that the adhesive side of the cover tape faces up or away from the feeder. Lift the Splice Lid on the Splice Engine and slip the cover tape underneath the lid. Pull the cover tape so it s taut and straight and place it over the o-ring roller. Lower the Splice Lid onto the cover tape securing it between the o-ring roller and the Idler Knurl of the Splice Lid. Locating First Component SP02 Tape Feeder Loading & Operation With the tape securely loaded into the feeder, you now have to position the first component so that the empty pocket directly ahead of it is at the Pick Point. Press and hold down the Single Hole Feed button, then use the Forward Feed button to position the empty pocket so that it is centered in the Pick Point Mark. Refer to page 1 for details of how the Single Hole Feed button works. Setting Feeder Pitch SP02 Tape Feeder Loading & Operation Now you have to set the pitch setting of the feeder. First identify the pitch of the tape you are using. Use the Hover-Davis Tape Gauge #410T-049 (see below) to help identify the pitch of the tape you are using. Then set the Pitch Selector using the Increase Pitch button or Decrease Pitch button respectively so that the Pitch Display matches the pitch of the tape.
