Diversity Events at Auburn October 3 rd Francophone Film Festival Opening Feature-Poto Mitan This event, part of the Global Citizen Project sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts Civic and Community Engagement Initiative, comprises a screening and discussion of the film, Poto Mitan, a documentary which offers a rare glimpse into Haitian women struggling to understand their complex condition and what they are doing for themselves. Location: Cater Hall Lawn Time: 7:30 PM 5 th The Tournees Film Festival-Des Dieux et Hommes The Tournees Film Festival is a program of Face, a partnership with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, which aims to bring contemporary French Cinema to campuses of American universities. The program distributes close to $200,000 in grants annually to encourage schools to begin their own self-sustaining French film festivals. This is Auburn s first participation in the program, thanks to the College of Liberal Arts Community and Civic Engagement Initiative. 6 th Jennifer Trevino presents Struggles and Hardships-Dedication and Commitment: Alabama Women s Experiences During the Civil War This event is part of a lecture series sponsored by the Caroline Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities. This dramatic monologue by Gina Ulysse considers the complex ways the past occupies the present. Ulysse weaves history, personal narrative, theory and statistics in spoken
word with Vodou chants to reflect and deconstruct childhood memories, social (in)justice, spirituality, and the incessant dehumanization of Haitians. She offers critical musings on geopolitics along with dispatches from various individuals she has encountered during the last year in post-quake Haiti.
