FL-2D HARBOR CITY WINGS MELBOURNE, FLORIDA April 2010 GOLD WING ROAD RIDERS ASSOCIATION Chapter Director comments: Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! I just wanted to get your attention so I could really say THANK YOU, for all your support in New Smyrna at our Hot Dog Stand during Bike Week. Without you guys coming up and helping, it wouldn t have been as successful as it was. I think the weather kept a lot of riders indoors. Maybe next year there will be a better turnout with respect to customers. We did have a star visit the Getaway on March 3 rd. Bob Sackett with a crew from A&E came in filming a documentary on a motorcycle club from the north coming down to bike week. Harry and I busted our buns. We were just closing and a crew member came up and ordered twenty six hot dogs. Don t know if we ll be mentioned on the documentary but if we are, we can really say our hot dogs are star quality. The FL District Rally in Kissimmee started Mar 11 th. We had 14 members stay for the entire rally. Again, it rained the first two days. Did not have any scheduled rides in March due to bike week, fol- Meetings - First Tuesday of each Month Currently meeting at : MeMaws on Babcock in Palm Bay. Eat, Chat and Mingle at 6:00pm. lowed by the Rally. Have a kick tire planned for Mar 28 at Eau Gallie Crab house. It usually is good for a big turn out. We expect to have some nice rides in April. See you at the monthly gathering in April. Ride safe and long, Charlotte & Mike harlotte Chapter Director ercer There were two good ol' boys from a warm climate who loved to fish. They wanted to do some ice fishing that they'd heard about in Canada, so they took off to try it. The lake was frozen nicely, so they stopped just before they got to the lake at a little bait shop and got all their bait and tackle. One of them said, "We're going to need an ice pick." After they got their equipment, they took off. In about two hours, one of them was back at the shop and said, "We're going to need another dozen ice picks." He sold him the picks, and the good ol' boy left. In about an hour, he was back at the shop agaain and said, "We're going to need all the ice picks you've got." The shop owner couldn't believe it. "By the way," he asked, "how are you fellows doing?" "Not very well at all," he said. "We don't even have the stupid boat in the water yet." 2

When asked to define "great" he said, "I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level. Stuff that will make them scream, cry, and howl in pain and anger!" He now works for Microsoft, writing error messages. 3

Safety Educator Wrecks: AND NOW A WORD FROM CAPTAIN SAFETY Some say having a wreck is inevitable? There are riders who have gone down and there are riders who are going to go down The idea here is that if you haven t been down yet you will be. It seems almost pre-destined for every motorcycle rider to have a crash sooner or later. I am not talking about the dropped bike in a parking lot or at a PLP I mean a wreck; things get broken people get hurt. People with hundreds of thousands of miles of experience have wrecks. to protect you when all else fails. Remember the SPA method scan, predict, act, or SEE scan, evaluate, execute, stay alert and be aware of your surroundings Ride safe. MIKE Mike and Pat Duquette Sr. chapter educators Ray and Diane Mercier asst. chapter educators I agree with the Hurt report that s states over 90% of accidents with motorcycles could have been prevented. I say it is not inevitable, maybe likely or probable. A friend said his flight instructor once said There is no such thing as an accident They are crashes and all crashes have a cause, or more likely a number of causes that compound and get the airplane ahead of the pilot. Mechanical failure, weather, fatigue, distractions, or poor planning are things that can lead to a crash. T-CLOCK CHECK : Tires and wheels, Controls, Lights and electrics, Oil and fluids, Chassis, Kickstand. What about the crashes you are familiar with, what caused them and could they have been prevented. I believe a lot could be prevented with proper maintenance, training, alertness, practice, and riding within your ability. I think the bottom line is to keep the odds in our favor through education, PLP s, ERC s, TRC s and other courses provided by GWRRA, also practice on your own, and wear proper riding gear Let me get this straight. It is an 1800 but it is FOUR wheeled! Ok. Why stop at three, right! 4

Birthday s Anniversaries 4/12 Mike & Charlotte Mercer 4/22 Mo & Deb Dalton 4/10 Wayne Storey 4/18 Rachel Moyer 4/18 Debbie Brown 4/30 Barb Chilberg Morris needs a lawyer, so he grabs the yellow pages and picks out a law firm ---Schwartz, Schwartz, Schwartz & Schwartz. He calls up and says, "Is Mr. Schwartz in?" The man says, "No, he's out playing golf." Morris says, "All right, then let me speak to Mr. Schwartz." "He's not with the firm any more, he's retired." "Then let me talk to Mr. Schwartz." "He's away in Boston, won't be back for a month." "Okay, then let me talk to the other Mr. Schwartz." He says, "Speaking!" While shopping for vacation clothes, my husband and I passed a display of bathing suits. It had been at least ten years and twenty pounds since I had even considered buying a bathing suit, so I sought my husband's advice. 'What do you think?' I asked. 'Should I get a bikini or an all-in-one?' 'Better get a bikini,' he replied. 'You'd never get it all in one.' 5

Chapter Meeting @ MeMaw s Harry and Lynn got Couple of the Year award. Harry was at the Hot Dog Stand for Bike Week so.. Mo did the honors. Thanks to Charlie Davies for the pictures. Without him, there would be none. Guess it depends on your ride. Guess for some, having a backup is a wise choice. Getting that time of the year for another shot at the curves. Can t wait! Ah..three wheeler. 6

Registration It rained all day! The FL2D evening gatherings. 9

Good morning! Rain outside and lots of games inside. The prize! Lunch break in the lot. 10

No it isn t the HOME, it is the lunch bunch! Rained the second day too! All that gaming tension takes it s toll. We were entertained by Neal Diamond Some got more out of it than the rest of us... They had Big Chickens. There were Hot Babe s! Cross dressers too. 11

There was a talent show! A talent judge. There was an awards ceremony too. At the end, Mike walked away with the trophy! 12

A man named Fred had tickets to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, right at center ice. As Fred sat down, a man came and asked him if anyone was going to occupy the seat next to him. "No," said Fred, "sit right down. The seat will be empty." "That's incredible!" said the man. "Who in their right mind would reserve a seat like this for the Stanley Cup and then not use it?" Fred said, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Stanley Cup we haven't been to together since we got married nearly 50 years ago." "Oh... I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else - a friend or relative, or even a neighbor - to take her seat?" Fred shook his head sadly. "No. They're all at the funeral." A pastor, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, "What's with these guys? We must have been waiting for 15 minutes!" The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such ineptitude!" The pastor said,"hey, here comes the greenskeeper. Let's have a word with him." "Hi George. Say, what's with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?" The greenskeeper replied, "Oh, yes, that's a group of blind firefighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime." The group was silent for a moment. The pastor said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight." The doctor said, "Good idea. And I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist buddy and see if there's anything he can do for them." The engineer said, "Why can't these guys play at night?" A special thanks to our members who submit articles. We love the support and the good information.
