NL NIFCO The Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Co operative often the first phone call provides a wide range of assistance, information and services to filmmakers working on the smallest to the largest scale productions. Visit: www.nifco.org NL provides c EQUIPMENT The Atlantic Studios Co operative (ASCO) provides professional motion picture and television productions in Newfoundland and Labrador with the best lighting and grip equipment available. ASCO's inventory provides an array of film and television lighting including HMI and; Tungsten, Kino Flos, Grip Equipment, Car Mounts, Dolly Track, a Giraffe Classic Crane with a 32ft extension, housed in its own travel trailer, complete with 50 Feet of Filmair track; and two 10 ton tandem axle trucks, complete with belly bins and hydraulic lift gates, one outfitted as a grip truck, the other as a generator truck with 1200 amp 3 phase 120/208 volt crystal sync output. 3

Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Co operative [NIFCO] is the equipment destination for a multitude of film projects. NIFCO services feature films and television productions with camera accessories and support gear along with top end sound recording gear. It also provides filmmakers of smaller projects with access to a wide range of production equipment at reasonable rental rates. NIFCO s inventory includes a 2K Black Magic Camera and; Canon CN E Zoom Lens, full Canon CN E Cine Prime Lens Kit, Satchler and Ronford Tripods, Flanders, Panasonic and Odyssey Monitors, Sound Devices 788 and; 688 Mixer/Recorders, a variety of Sanken Microphones, Ambient Boom Poles and Deneke TS3 Smart Slates, a variety of small Kino Flos, LED Light Kits and V Lock Batteries and Charging Systems. LABOUR NL Crew and Talent NL has a professional crew base that has developed over twenty five years of working on feature films and television series. The pool numbers approximately x artists, craftspeople and technicians, many of whom are members of IATSE and DGC Atlantic. There is also a nationally recognized talent pool of actors, many of whom work both locally as well as nationally and are members of ACTRA. 4

Actor Base ACTRA NL represents an actor base of professional performers and includes actors, stunt performers and stunt coordinators (http://actranewfoundland.ca/) Training & Professional Development Newfoundland and Labrador is a production centre with training and professional development opportunities for all industry professionals. NIFCO NIFCO, founded in 1975, is an artist run organization dedicated to supporting filmmakers. NIFCO s programs play a crucial role in the growth, development and success of the film community and it has a reputation that spans the country. NLFDC The NLFDC works closely with stakeholders, unions, guilds, and training bodies to enhance the local production environment. They play a leading role in developing the production industry through professional, business and market development initiatives. 6

Industry Industry forums are held a number of times a year in conjunction with the St. John s International Women's Film Festival and Nickel Film Festival. These events are led by international delegates and special guests. Education There are post secondary courses available at College of the North Atlantic and Memorial University. Post Production NIFCO is a post production facility that can deliver to any broadcaster or distributor a fully compliant, QC d master file, DCP or tape. 4k, UHD, 2k, HD, SD stereo or 5.1 surround sound Closed Captioned and with Descriptive Video. NIFCO Overview All of NIFCO s picture and sound editing suites are connected to a DDP media sharing network. This allows all editing workstations to share access to any piece of digitized media and project data, increasing productivity and easing workflow throughout the post production process. The colour grading suites have their own dedicated media server for 4k and; UHD playback. 7

NIFCO can put footage or film in the cloud with an automated system to ingest, transcode, upload, distribute and archive your camera original files, secure and encrypted. NIFCO provides the services of a staff colourist, and full time in house technical support. A complete sound team editors, mixers, foley artist and ADR/Foley recordist can be included in NIFCO quoting or can be contracted directly by the production company. Transportation Getting to Newfoundland and Labrador Air Canada and AC Jazz operate regular flights from all major centres in North America & Europe. West Jet has a direct seasonal flight from London and Dublin to St. John's and also has many flights from St. John's to other Canadian cities. The crossing takes 5 to 7 hours. From mid June to mid September, there are also regular crossings between North Sydney and Argentia, an hour and a half drive from St. John's on the Avalon Peninsula. The crossing takes 14 hours. Sleeping accommodations can be arranged on both crossing. Reservations for Marine Atlantic ferries are required. Schedules and reservations can be obtained through: 9

In addition, there are airports at Stephenville and Deer Lake on the west coast, and at St. Anthony on the northern peninsula. In Labrador, there are airports at Happy Valley Goose Bay, at Churchill Falls and Wabush. Local airstrips along coastal Labrador accommodate small aircraft. Within the province, Air Canada Jazz, Provincial Airlines, and Air Labrador provide regular service. Air Labrador provides services to coastal Labrador, and Provincial Airlines serves the French island of St. Pierre, off Newfoundland's south coast. On the island, the Trans Canada Highway, Route 1, runs 905 km from Port aux Basques to St. John's. Generally, the speed limit is 100 km/hr. Driving time from: Port aux Basques Deer Lake Gander To St. John's: 10.5Hrs 7Hrs 3.5Hrs Major towns and smaller communities on the island are connected to the TCH by paved secondary roads, generally with speed limits of 80 km/hr. Usually hugging the shoreline, the picturesque, winding roads connect communities along the coast. Vehicle rentals are available on the island through major companies. Advance reservations are advised during tourism season. In Labrador, roadways are more sparse and travel in winter is accomplished by air, boat, and skidoo. A 525 km gravel highway, Route 500, connects Happy Valley Goose Bay to Labrador City Wabush, approximately a nine hour drive. On the southernmost shoreline, Route 510 links Blanc Sablon to Red Bay and connects to the coastal boat system and the ferry to Newfoundland. The Province of Newfoundland and Labrador maintains a comprehensive ferry service connecting with coastal islands and remote communities. They run on regular schedules, spring through fall. A ferry service runs between Blanc Sablon, on the Labrador Straits, and St. Barbe on the Northern Peninsula of the island. 11
