New for 2017! EXPLORE Verb 1. to traverse or range over (a region, area, etc) for the purpose of discovery. MH Downtown-See attached MH Downtown District Map New for 2017, the Southend Downtown Development Authority along with other stakeholders went through an extensive visioning and later drafted a comprehensive Downtown Plan of what they envision for the Downtown District. A map of the Downtown District and a brief background on the MH Downtown District Authority are attached with the art challenge application. Now, it s time for the students to weigh in of what they envision for the Madison Heights Downtown District! This year s theme is to challenge students to create an art piece that answers the question How would you Explore MH Downtown? Entry Requirements and Criteria specific to Explore MH Downtown Art Challenge The art competition are open to all students eligible in the annual DDA art challenge. A design review committee comprised of DDA Board Members, city staff, local business owners, art professionals, and other stakeholders will be reviewing the art entries and responsible for the selection of the winning designs. Submittals will be reviewed on the basis of originality, creativity, functionality, compatibility and communication of how the art piece best portray the Explore MH Downtown art challenge theme. Terms and Agreement: Entry applicant and his/her parent/guardian shall indemnify and hold harmless the City of Madison Heights Southend Downtown Development Authority, the City of Madison Heights, event volunteers from claims, liabilities, costs and charges (including attorney fees) for injury, loss or damage to property or persons (including death) arising out of student activities in connection with the event, or any breach of representation, warranty or covenant in this contract or in the Terms and Conditions contained in this agreement. Entries will be returned to all applicants. Applicant is responsible for the transfer and pick-up of their own art-work. Art-work not picked up after the art challenge exhibit will be discarded. The student applicant agrees that the City of Madison Heights may, if it elects, reproduce or display the artwork and narrative (including on the internet) as well as produce collateral materials using the art likeness in whole or parts of any written addenda. Entry Requirements and Criteria: Must be enrolled as a full-time student at any of the Madison Heights schools, including Lamphere, Madison and Bishop Foley. Submittal must be an original work created for this art challenge. Art work previously made or shown at another art challenge or exhibit will not be accepted. It must not be copied from or very similar in appearance to any other art, photo or material. Entries must be appropriate for promotional/marketing purposes Entries deemed vulgar or offensive will be disqualified, in the sole discretion of the judges A statement must accompany your entry, stating your interpretation of Explore MH Downtown theme and where you obtained the materials to create the art piece. Artists are encouraged to purchase their supplies from a Madison Heights based Business! Applicants can work in teams or individually. However, only one entry per person. If you are participating in an art piece on a team, you may not submit an individual art piece separately. Excluded materials include deceased animals/insects, (in whole and part) any harmful solids or liquids, perishable items. You must include your name and title of your artwork on the enclosed form If the Madison Heights DDA determines that any of these rules have been violated, Madison Heights may disqualify the entry from this competition. The City of Madison Heights, DDA, Sponsors and Judges are not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen entries. There is no entry fee to participate. Please consider the theme when creating your piece.
