The engraved and coloured wood panel pictured above in FIGURE 12 by Cecil Skotnes, shows a head with symbolic lines of speech coming from his mouth. The painting in FIGURE 13 represents a matriarch (female form) of the Ndebele (Mapogga) tribe, whose kraals surrounded Pretoria, where Preller lived. 7.1 7.2 Discuss how the paintings shown in FIGURES 12 and 13, show a unique and personal interpretation of indigenous African imagery. His art was created amid the daily angst and hardship of existence in a deprived society. His personal emotional expression can be seen in the images that reflect poverty, brutality and fear. Discuss the work(s) of Dumile Feni, and/or any other artist of your choice that communicates similar messages through his/her works of art. (8) [20] TOTAL: 100
