We use these activities during our Word Work time for Daily 5. We have used them as literacy stations in the past as well. We give each student a choice board on Monday. We explain each activity and show the students an example. Then students are allowed to choose any station activity they prefer. They will work the entire designated work time. Some students may finish more than 1 station and that is great. They all know that they MUST complete a MINIMUM of 5 activities by Friday. All activities work on the /ch/ sound so it s ok if they don t get to everything! Station 1: My ch Book: Students draw a picture on each page of a word that begins or ends with letter ch. Then label the picture in the space below. Challenge: Students will write sentences about the pictures they draw. Station 2: Color, Cut, and Label: Students color the pictures that have the /ch/ sound at the beginning or end. Then they cut them out, glue them to their mat, and label each word. Station 3: Word Search: Students will illustrate the pictures with the /ch/ sound, find in the word search, then write a sentence. Station 4: ch Bingo: Students will look at each picture and label. If the word has a /ch/, then they will color it. Can they find 3 in a row? Station 5: ch Chains: Students will look at each picture and label the words. Then they will cut apart each strip and interlock them before gluing to make a /ch/ chain. Challenge: Each page has more difficult /ch/ words (beginning with 1 syllable and ending with multi-syllable. There are also blank chains if you want your students to create their own words. Station 6: Students will pound the word with their fist, then tap each individual sound. After that, students will stamp the beginning sound and write the words in the boxes. Then students will write a sentence about one of the pictures. Station 7 Picture Sort: Have students sort the pictures onto the correct side (ch or c). Have them label the pictures. Challenge: This sheet has multi-syllable /ch/ words. Station 8: Back to Back Game: Students sit back to back with a partner. They draw a card from the bag. They give clues to their partner to help them guess the /ch/ word on the card. Station 9: Make it, Paint it, Tear it! Students can use art materials, paint, or torn paper to make a ch picture. Then write a sentence to tell about their creation. Challenge: Write a STORY about your picture. CHALLENGE: Stations 1, 5, 7, and 9 have additional pages that use the same activity but with HIGHER skill levels needed to complete them. FREEBIE: Alphabet Soup: Students cut out letters from magazines and glue onto their sheet to make their own alphabet soup. Not on choice board. FREEBIE: Morning Work and Letter Writing Practice FREEBIE: Vocabulary Cards!! FREEBIE: Dictation: Formative Assessment found at the end of the pack. Directions on the teacher key.
