Start Successfully 1 Start Successfully 1.1 About the manual This manual is intended for all users who want to learn how to use Nero Live. It is processbased and explains how to achieve a specific objective on a step-by-step basis. To make best use of this documentation, please note the following conventions: Indicates warnings, preconditions or instructions that have to be precisely followed. Indicates additional information or advice. 1. Start The number at the beginning of a line indicates a prompt for action. Carry out these actions in the order specified. OK (see ) [ ] Indicates an intermediate result. Indicates a result. Indicates text passages or buttons that appear in the program interface. They are shown in boldface. Indicates references to other chapters. They are executed as links and are shown in red and underlined. Indicates keyboard shortcuts for entering commands. 1.2 About Nero Live Nero Live combines television, precision capturing of television programs, and easy playback of captures directly from the application. Enjoy features such as time-delayed playback on the easy-to-use user interface. Categorize your channels according to favorite and most frequently viewed channels. Thanks to the navigation bar integrated into every screen, you always have fast access to all the features of the application and can easily display additional information or rapidly jump from channel to channel. Nero Live supports the latest TV standards (DVB-S/S2, DVB-S, DVB-T, ATSC, ATSC OTA), HDTV, and Dolby Digital. A start wizard helps you with the basic configuration, making it easy to get started. 1.3 Electronic Program Guide The electronic program guide (EPG) is made available by the DVB stream and displays the TV and radio schedule for the coming days. Depending on the channel that the electronic program guide provides, the program schedule preview may vary between 4 and 7 days. Nero Live 4

Start Successfully The programs are listed with date, channel, title, and duration. You can have detailed information displayed for each broadcast program, provided the information is available. The electronic program guide lets you schedule and manage captures of films or TV series. You can also configure Nero Live in such a way that it reminds you when, for example, your favorite program begins. The option of sorting the electronic program guide display according to various criteria and creating a list of your favorites ensures that you will always have a well-organized overview, even if there is a large number of channels available. 1.4 Launching the program To start Nero Live via Nero StartSmart, proceed as follows: 1. Click the StartSmart icon. The Nero StartSmart window opens. 2. Click the button. The list of Nero applications appears. Nero StartSmart window 3. Select the Nero Live entry in the selection list. 4. The Nero Live window opens. You have launched Nero Live via Nero StartSmart. Nero Live 5

1.5 Configure Nero Live Start Successfully T he first time you launch Nero Live, the splash screen of the wizard appears automatically. This start wizard guides you step by step through the basic configuration process for Nero Live. You can reconfigure the basic settings at any time using the wizard. In the Settings screen in the System area, click the Launch wizard button. To configure Nero Live, proceed as follows: 1. Click the Launch Configuration button in the Welcome to Nero Live splash screen. The Regional Settings screen is displayed. 2. Select the desired language from the Language drop-down menu and click the Next button. The Screen Settings screen appears. 3. Select the desired aspect ratio for your hardware and click the Next button. The Safe Area screen is displayed. 4. If elements are being clipped off-screen, expand the safe area margin on the outside of your screen. 5. Click the Next button. The Large User Interface screen is displayed. 6. Choose the desired size in which buttons and type faces, for example, should be displayed on the screen, and then click the Next button. The Tuner Scan screen is displayed. This is where all connected TV tuner cards are displayed. Picture-in-Picture Feature To use the picture-in-picture feature, you have to have at least two TV cards (same or different cards) connected to your computer. Please note that a TV card with a dual tuner or hybrid tuner does not support this feature. 7. Select the check boxes for the TV tuner cards you want and click the Next button. Depending on the selected TV tuner card (DVB-S/S2, DVB-C, DVB-T, analogue), the screen, adapted to the tuner setting, is displayed. If you selected multiple TV tuner cards, the configuration screens are displayed in sequence. 8. Click the Start Scan button. The Tuner Scan screen is displayed. The search for channels and EPG data may take a while. Once the search is completed, the EPG Settings screen is displayed. Nero Live 6

Start Successfully 9. In the Frequency, Hour, and Minute drop-down menu, choose the time interval for updating your EPG, and then click the Next button. The Finished screen is displayed. You have configured Nero Live and can now use the application. Nero Live 7

Navigation in Nero Live 2 Navigation in Nero Live You can access the individual screens by double-clicking the desired button on the right, next to the clock. You also have the option of navigating with the keyboard arrow keys or with the remote control. The following buttons are available for accessing screens with the same names: Program Scheduled Captured Radio Search Settings Exit Opens the Program screen and displays the electronic program guide. Individual channels can be filtered, favorites and the most frequently viewed channels can be displayed (see Program Screen 12). Opens the Scheduled screen and displays the programs you want to capture (see Scheduled Screen 15). Opens the Captured screen and displays the programs you have captured (see Captured Screen 16). Opens the Radio screen and displays all the radio channels you can play (see Radio screen 18). Opens the Search screen, where you can search for a program by title and subtitle (see Search Screen 17). Opens the Settings screen, where you can configure settings for EPG, TV/DVR, and system settings (see Settings Screen 10). Exits Nero Live. While you watch television, you have the option of displaying various kinds of information in the upper part of the screen. The following navigation options are available on the upper left margin of the screen: Displays the time for programs that are broadcast before and after on the channel where the current broadcast is taking place. With the up/down arrow keys, you can change channels without interrupting the current broadcast. / Navigates through all scheduled / captured programs. The following buttons are generally available in all screens: Back Displays the previous screen. Switches to the next channel or to the previous channel every time the button is clicked. / Start/ends capture. Nero Live 8

Navigation in Nero Live Jumps back one chapter. Increases the rewinding speed each time the button is clicked. Pauses playback. Starts playback. The buttons are available only if you first click the button. Jumps forward to the next chapter. Increases the fast-forwarding speed each time the button is clicked. / Turns the sound on/off. You can adjust the volume with the +/- buttons. Displaying Navigation Elements You can display the navigation elements by moving the mouse pointer over the screen. Settings Screen 3 Settings Screen In the Settings screen, you can change the basic settings you defined using the start wizard at any time. You can also configure various EPG settings, manage your channels, and adjust capture settings here. You can display the Settings screen by clicking the Settings button. The following setting options are available in the EPG area: Settings Screen Channel Management Most Watched Channels Favorite Channels EPG Settings Opens Channel Management. Here, you can move channels into your EPG, as well as rename and hide them. Displays the channels that you watch the most. Clicking the Delete Frequently Watched Channels button deletes the list of most frequently watched channels. The channels are not removed from your EPG. Displays your preferred channels. You can add and remove channels to and from the list according to your preferences. Clicking the Delete All Preferred Channels button once deletes the list of preferred channels. The channels are not removed from your EPG. Opens the EPG Settings. Here, you can set the updating frequency or update your EPG manually. You can also see when the EPG was last updated successfully. The follow setting options are available in the TV / DVR area: Nero Live 10

Settings Screen Video Aspect Ratio Capturing Options Opens the Live TV Aspect Ratio window. Here, you can define whether or not a film or video should be adjusted to the aspect ratio of your screen in terms of height and width, whether or not it should be rotated, and whether or not you want to keep the aspect ratio. You can specify the aspect ratio of your screen in the Settings a- rea, under Monitor Setup. Opens the capture settings. This is where you can configure the capture behavior of the default program and the hard drive, i.e. you can define, for example, a Capture Folder and buffer. The following setting options are available in the System area: General Tuner Setup Monitor Setup Adjust Display Safe Area Change Size and Control of Text Audio About Nero Live Start wizard Defines the general settings for Nero Live. Here you can choose the language with which you want to use the application. Opens the window for tuner settings. Here, you can start the tuner configuration. Open the window for setting the monitor. This is where you can define the aspect ratio of your hardware. The aspect ratio of films and videos during playback can be defined in the TV / DVR area under Video Aspect Ratio. Opens the Safe Area window. If elements are being clipped offscreen, expand the safe area margin on the outside of your screen. Opens the Size of User Interface window. Here, you can define the size of fonts and other on-screen elements. Opens the Audio Output window. Here, you can choose the type of audio output to use. The default settings use the Windows audio settings. Displays contact and copyright information. Starts the wizard with whose help you can re-configure the basic settings. Nero Live 11

Program Screen 4 Program Screen You receive the electronic program schedule information automatically with your digital television signal. It gives you an overview of your television program schedule over several days. From here, you can display programs currently being broadcast, schedule captures of individual programs and entire series, and create reminders for certain programs. The program information is displayed in the Program screen, which shows the following areas by default: Information Area At the top left, blue highlighted information such as broadcasting time, title, and subtitle is displayed for the currently selected program. Picture-in-picture (PiP) At the top right, in a small window, the currently running television program of the se- is displayed. lected channel Time Bar Below the information area and PiP, the time bar is displayed, beginning with the current time. Channel List All available channels are listed with their numbers on the bottom left. Program List The schedule for the channel selected on the left and for the following hours and days is displayed on the bottom right together with the show time. You can filter the way the channels and programs are displayed based on various criteria and list all available channels and their programs, or only favorite channels (Favorites) or Most Watched channels. The following context menu is available in the channel list area: Program screen with displayed program information Nero Live 12

Program Screen Switch to Channel View Add Channel to Favorites Manage Channels Manual Capturing Close Displays a screen on which the schedule of one single channel is shown. You can browse through the channels with the arrow keys. Here, too, a context menu is available in order to allow you to re-display all channels and their schedules. Assigns the selected channels to your favorite channels (Favorites). The assignment is indicated by an asterisk next to the channel name. Displays a screen where you can define how the channels are to be sorted and displayed (by number or name) and whether or not hidden channels should be displayed. You also have the option, via the context menu, of renaming a channel, assigning a channel number to it, or hiding it. Displays a screen where you can schedule a capture by manually entering the channel and show time. Program Screen Clicking the Program button again causes the television picture that is being shown in the PiP window to be displayed in full screen. An information bar is then shown at the top of the screen and provides the schedule of the active channel and certain buttons for browsing the schedule for different channels. Nero Live 14

Scheduled Screen 5 Scheduled Screen The Scheduled screen lists all programs that you want to capture. You have the option of sorting the programs by date, name of the program, or channel. Captured Screen 6 Captured Screen The Captured screen displays all programs that have been captured. Captured Screen If you right-click a captured program, the following context menu is displayed: Play Capture Delete Capture More Info Close The selected capture is played. The selected capture is deleted. Displays a screen with additional information about the selected program. You can also create a reminder that alerts you when this program, or an episode of the selected series, is being broadcast. Similarly, you can have the program or television series with all of its episodes captured. Closes the context menu. Nero Live 16

Search Screen 7 Search Screen You can search for the title or subtitle of a program in the Search screen. You have the option of entering a search term in the edit box in the Search screen by using the keyboard, a remote control, or the number pad. The following context menu is available when you right-click a search result: Search Screen More Info Set Reminder Set Reminder Series Schedule Capture Schedule Capturing Series Remove Scheduled Capturing Close Displays a screen with additional information about the selected program. You can also create a reminder that alerts you when this program, or an episode of the selected series, is being broadcast. Radio Screen 8 Radio Screen The Radio screen lists all available radio channels with their program schedules. You can listen to radio programs and display further information about individual radio channels by using the More Infos context menu (provided information is available). Nero Live 18

Key Combinations 9 Key Combinations Selecting the most important shortcuts for Nero Live: [Up arrow] [Down arrow] [Left arrow] [Right arrow] [Enter key] Opens the schedule information bar at the top of the screen, displaying the television schedule for the selected channel (when the television picture is being shown in full screen mode). Switches to the program schedule of the next channel in the already displayed schedule information bar. Moves the selection bar or selection frame up in a menu, context menu, or in the channel/schedule lists. Opens the schedule information bar at the top of the screen, displaying the television schedule for the selected channel (when the television picture is being shown in full screen mode). Switches to the program schedule of the previous channel in the already displayed schedule information bar. Moves the selection bar or selection frame down in a menu, context menu, or in the channel/schedule lists. High resolution TV captures require more space: about 8 GB of disk space for each hour of capturing.
