Items for Information 4.1 Chair s Report (Oye) - Congratulations to George on the successful completion of his doctoral studies. - Best of luck to Chee Meng on his doctoral completion in February. - STP letters of support deadline is Friday January 10 th. - Best wishes for the semester ahead. 4.2 Studio Report (Davies) - Please remind your non-registered students to register. Last day to registers Tuesday January 14 th. - *Discussion of studio procedures for the May retreat. 4.3 Conservatory Report (Mezei) - There has been 14% growth in registrations from last year and 18% increase in growth overall. - Feel the Beat: the Crowsnest Pass Symphony has given a grant of $4400 to support Feel the Beat. 4.4 Canadian Music Network Forum Jan. 24-26 (Stewart) - The forum will be taking place at the University of Calgary campus. - Concerts all weekend long starting on January 23 rd with various forums and panels taking place. 4.5 Concert Committee Report - The Dean has requested the Music Department put in an application for funding from Alberta Foundation for the Arts for the Faculty Artists and Friends concert series. o This would allow for the possibility of a larger-scale concert(s). o Must be submitted by January 31 st. o Please send the committee your suggestions of artist(s) to bring in ($5000-$8000). - Please send your 2014-2015 concert suggestions to the committee by Tuesday, January 14.

4.6 Graduate Studies Report (Oye/Dobbie) - The application deadline for the MMus program is February 1 st. o All applications are now submitted online. o MMus audition date is Saturday March 1 st. Following BMus auditions - The MFA/MMus Curriculum sub-committee is looking to align credit hours across all the MFA/MMus programs. o Currently in dicussions about a second FFA common course which would focus on Theory/History. Would the MMus program like to be included? A request was made from some music faculty not to add any additional courses to the MMus program as it is intense enough as is. The M.Mus. curriculum needs to be reviewed as no student has yet gone through the program without alterations. - Timetabling of the MFA/MMus courses needs to happen at the same time as the undergrad timetable. 5. Items for Discussion and Action 5.1 Zoom H2/Zoom H4n recorders in studios (Sullivan/Visentin from last meeting) - Would it be possible to replace old stereo equipment in the faculty offices with Zoom H2 or Zoom H4n microphone recorders through capital replacement? - Chris has 25 Zoom H4n microphones that are for use at the Calgary campus courses currently stored in his office. As long as Calgary campus does not need them Lethbridge campus faculty may borrow them for studio use. 5.2 New Steinway D Clara Keys (Davies) - Is it possible for all studio faculty to have a keys to Clara? - Does the piano still need to remain locked or can it be unlocked? o Combination lock, keyboard lock? - Sam will explore lock options for Clara. 5.3 Lifecycle Asset Replacement List Instruments (Oye) Encl. MOTION: to approve the lifecycle replacement list as proposed. Moved by: A. Mason (seconded by B. Hendsbee) 5.4 Ensemble Budget format (Mason) - Ensemble directors have been asked to create a standard funding model for financing. o Can the ensembles Carry Forward to the next year from their operating accounts? o Deanna will follow up with Margot. 5.5 Penny Building acoustic treatment, piano storage (Stewart) - James McDowell has offered the Music department curtains to be able to section off a part of the gallery space for performances. o Looking to build a movable curtain wall. MOTION: to support the Penny Building Coordinator position with $1200.00. Moved by: B. Hendsbee (seconded by B. Hansen) 2 abstentions, 2 against 5.6 Fundraising priorities (Oye) - REMINDER: please be thinking of fundraising projects and send your ideas to either Deanna or the Dean s office. - Deanna will send the list created by the department at the August 2013 retreat. 5.7 W470 Keys (Mason) - The department needs to meet to discuss policy and guidelines surrounding W470. MOTION: to approve cutting additional keys for the percussion studio students. Moved by: A. Mason (seconded by P. Visentin) 2 abstentions 5.8 Alumni List (Hansen)
