Front and Side View of Monitor Installation of Monitor This monitor is intended to be mounted in and used where NEMA 4 and NEMA 12 type enclosures are employed. When mounted properly, the monitor meets or exceeds the sealing requirements set forth in the NEMA 4 and NEMA 12 specifications. The monitor uses U -shaped clips and a special gasket to achieve the proper seal. To install the monitor, make a cutout per the diagram below in one of the walls of your NEMA enclosure. Enclosures made of heavier gauge metal work better in that they won t deform or bend as easily when the monitor s sealing gasket is compressed. Next hold the monitor in place while you install the mounting clips. Tighten the clips in a cross pattern. This will help to develop an even pressure on the sealing gasket. Tighten the clips to the point were the back of the monitor s front bezel just begins to contact the front of the NEMA enclosure. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN AS DAMAGE CAN RESULT IN THE MONITOR CAUSING LOSS OF SEALING INTEGRITY. 6

Cutout Pattern for Monitor Video Signal Adjustment Not all VGA controllers produce exactly the same video output levels or the same timing. The following procedure can be used to optimize your monitor s performance. When adjusting your monitor, the use of video test software such as DisplayMate for Windows by SONERA Technologies can be very beneficial. When adjusting the monitor s screen width and vertical & horizontal position in the 480 x 640 mode, use an image with only white pixels on in the 1 st and 640 th columns and the 1 st and 480 th row with all other pixels off. Use a similar pattern for setting width and position in the 350 x 640 and 400 x 640 modes. When setting the clock pot, a checker board image with every other pixel white (all others black) or an image with alternating white and black columns (one pixel wide each) is most helpful. 7

Adjustment Procedure STEP ACTION Power OFF, Video OFF Initial setup condition Initial Pot Setting CLOCK pot full clockwise. BLACK pot full clockwise.* BRIGHT pot full counter-clockwise. CONTRAST pot full clockwise. Power ON Turn power ON to the monitor. The monitor should recognize the absence of incoming video and flash the FAULT LED rapidly. The ACTIVE LED should be OFF. Video ON Start video signal. FAULT LED should be OFF and the ACTIVE LED should be ON. Set Black Level* Turn BLACK pot counter-clock until image starts to appear Identify a black object in the image and adjust the pot for the desired black level. Set Contrast Turn CONTRAST pot either direction until image presents all colors equally- not too white or to too dark. Look at image detailed areas for this. Set Brightness Adjust BRIGHT pot in either direction until the image is bright without washing out detail (too white). Set Horizontal Width Push HORZ push button and hold down for about 5 seconds while watching for the FAULT LED to stay ON and the ACTIVE LED to go OFF. Push F1 (WIDER) or F2 (NARROWER) push buttons to adjust the image width. Push HORZ again quickly to save the new setting in nonvolatile memory. Push RESET to ignore changes Set Horizontal Position Push HORIZ push button and watch for the ACTIVE LED to stay ON. Push F1 (RIGHT) or F2 (LEFT) push buttons to adjust image right or left to the desired location. Push HORZ again quickly to save the new setting in nonvolatile memory. Push RESET to ignore changes. Set Vertical Position Push VERT push button and watch for the ACTIVE LED to stay on. Push F1 (UP) or F2 (DOWN) push buttons to adjust image up or down to the desired location. Push VERT again quickly to save new settings in nonvolatile memory. Push RESET to ignore changes. RESET To be sure changes are stored in non-volatile memory, press RESET. Image should reappear with settings just applied Set CLOCK Pot Turn CLOCK pot in either direction to obtain the sharpest image. * This pot is located inside the monitor and is factory set. In most situations, the user should ignore these steps. 8

Back Light Replacement Procedure After 25,000 hours of use, the two lamps used for back lighting in the LCD may become dim or burn out. You may return the monitor to Viewtronix for lamp replacement or you can order new lamps and follow the procedure below to install them. You can perform the lamp replacement procedure without removing the monitor from the NEMA enclosure were it is mounted, but it is recommended you do this only if it is a clean environment. Otherwise, the procedure is better performed at a service bench. TURN THE MONITORS POWER OFF AND DISCONNECT THE LINE CORD! Loosen the four thumbscrews that hold the back of the monitor on. Separate the two halves of the monitor. If the unit is equipped with a touch screen, you will have to disconnect its cable. The lamps are mounted in small plastic carriers that slide in the right side of the LCD display at the top and bottom edges. Note their orientation and then unplug the two sets of lamp wires (3 pink and white silicone wires) from the nearby inverter. Look in the hole where the lamp is presently installed and note the small black locking tab on the front side of each hole. With a small slotted screwdriver, depress the tab while carefully pulling on the wires and slide the lamps outward. Discard the old lamps. Carefully slide the new lamps fully into place noting the top lamp has a small triangle molded in the end where the wires protrude. Similar triangles a stamped in the LCD s sheet metal near the top hole. Reconnect the lamp wires to the inverter. These are keyed connectors permitting insertion in only one orientation. You may now want to clean the LCD and the inside of the monitor s window or touch screen with a slightly damp soft cloth. Carefully reunite the two monitor halves remembering to reconnect the touch screen cable if the unit is so equipped. The lamp replacement procedure is now complete. 9

Trouble Shooting Guide Symptom Possible Cause Action No LCD display image No video signal Check to see that video source is No power on and operating, perhaps using another monitor. The monitor will flash the FAULT LED if no video syncs are present. Make sure the fuse is good and the unit is turned on. Verify the pot settings as indicated above in the video adjustment section. Too low BLACK will inhibit LCD image is too bright or white Adjustments Unrecognizable sync patterns VGA controller vertical refresh set >60Hz VGA controller set for >16-bit color LCD image is not centered Adjustments Unrecognizable format VGA controller vertical refresh set >60Hz VGA controller set for >16-bit color LCD image will not adjust or will not adjust vertically display. Reset the pots and follow the instructions above for setting the video image. Verify the video format supplied to the board. The monitor only recognizes 640 x 480, 640 x 400 and 640 x 350 PC formats at 60 Hz vertical refresh. Also check to see that your VGA controller is set to 16-bit color or less. Other formats or resolutions may cause the display to roll as well. Reset the image using video positioning instructions above. Different video sources have different timing characteristics. Verify the video format supplied to the board. The monitor only recognizes 640 x 480, 640 x 400 and 640 x 350 PC formats at 60Hz vertical refresh. Also check to see that your VGA controller is set to 16-bit color or less. Other format or resolutions may cause the display to roll as well Adjustments When using the video frame position push buttons, be sure the ACTIVE LED come on steadily before pushing F1 of F2. If you press HORIZ or VERT too fast, and do not hold the button in, the monitor will not recognize the input as your request to enter position modes. The ACTIVE LED will continue to flash at 1 Hz. 640 x 400 and 640 x 350 modes are centered automatically by the LCD display panel. These modes may be positioned horizontally only. 10

Symptom Possible Cause Action Image position changes are not remembered by the controller. Image is not stable (i.e. rolls or jitters). Adjustments When exiting the positioning modes by pushing the RESET button, all changes made in the current session are not saved to nonvolatile memory. Previously saved positions are restored from nonvolatile memory on power up of RESET. Position changes are stored only by exiting the positioning mode by pushing the appropriate mode button (VERT or HORZ). Adjustments Unrecognized video format Verify sync timing. Reposition the image with the position controls if possible. Adjust the CLOCK pot either way to see if image is affected (may assist controller to re-sync). Verify the video format supplied to the board. The monitor only recognizes 640 x 480, 640 x 400 and 640 x 350 at 60Hz vertical refresh and only up to 16-bit color. Other formats or resolutions may cause the display to roll as well.
