C About the COMPETITION Every two years, the Montana Association of Symphony Orchestras sponsors the Young Artist Competition. The Competition has been developed to recognize and encourage Montana s musical talent. The Competition is broken into three divisions; Junior (ages 13 through 15), Senior (ages 16 through high school graduate) and College (post-high school through age 22). There are three prizes offered in each division; a Winner, a Runner-Up and an Honorable Mention. Winners in each division receive a cash prize; $450 for Junior, $650 for Senior and $1,000 for College. In addition, winners in each category are guaranteed a performance of their award-winning selection with a Montana symphony orchestra. Musicians apply by submitting an application describing their musical experience to date along with an audio file of the selection they intend to perform at the Competition. These applications are divided into the three divisions and then sent out to MASO screening judges for evaluation. The screening judges then forward on recommendations for those musicians who will then be invited to perform a live audition. Three nationally recognized judges adjudicate the live performances in and award prizes. Today you will have the privilege of hearing some of Montana s finest musical talent. Being present for these performances causes the audience of friends, family members and fellow musicians to be inspired by the amazing accomplishment of these youthful Montana musicians.
