His contribution to Acoustics is too wide to be reviewed in a single paragraph. His name will remain as a synonym of the Acoustics of the 20th century and of the beginning of the 21st. YAN Publications Musicians usually have no opportunity to listen to their own instrument s sound in other conditions than at their usual place during rehearsal or performance. In a larger e learning project (see contribution of M. Kob et al.) the sound of orchestra instruments is auralized and visualized. Our motivation is to create an online, interactive user interface that shall offer easy access to a comprehensive analysis of instrument sounds and enable users to identify visual and aural changes in timbre depending on the playing style or listening position of an instrument. We present a set of video and audio recordings of orchestra instruments that are used as source signals for the auralization and visualization. The target group of the interactive orchestra sound project are teachers, students, musicians or acousticians. Various pitch ranges, registers, playing styles and radiation patterns are recorded and in a cooperation with the Network of Universities of Music arranged for educational use. This method gives musicians, music teachers and students a better understanding of instrument s acoustical properties such as sound spectrum, formant structure and directivity, and also serves teachers in acoustics as a reference of recordings and analysis methods of musical instruments and performance spaces. https://goo.gl/t0zgtb Banu Sahin has recently graduated as an honored student from a very comprehensive undergraduate program in "Audio Design / Engineering with a focus on music technologies at the Art and Design Faculty of Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul. She is currently a student in the last semester of Music Acoustics Master s Program (M.Sc.) at the Erich Thienhaus Institut of Hochschule für Musik Detmold in Germany. There she has been working on her Master s Thesis where she investigates subjective preferences in Detmold Concert Hall auditorium by comparing sensory evaluations and objective measurements using auralization method.

Local News The DEGA Young Professionals are a group of students, postgraduates and young acousticians within the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Akustik e.v. (DEGA), the German acoustics association. As an official section, we represent the interests of young acousticians at the DEGA executive board and have a permanent seat at the DEGA board of advisers. We provide a network for acousticians across Germany and have a special newsletter for acousticrelated topics in Germany. Furthermore, we organize dedicated events as part of the annual conference DAGA. At next year s DAGA from 03/06/17 03/09/17 in Kiel, there will be a special Pre Colloquium, covering topics for young professionals. With support of the DEGA, we could organize our own three day workshop in 2015 and 2016. The last YP workshop was held from 09/22/16 09/24/16 at the Friedrich Alexander Universität Erlangen with 15 participants. Each participant provided an overview of their current field of research and was able to discuss open questions. Besides this, two industry representatives gave insight into their vita and their current task area, related to acoustics. If you want to join the DEGA YP, send an email with your contact data to junge dega@dega akustik.de and like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/yprofessionals. Job Position Announcements 16) Auralization specialist, Foster and Partners, London (UK A position for an auralization specialist is coming available in a research group. In addition to developing new auralization systems, main duties include producing auralizations of architectural spaces via a 12 channel loudspeaker array and head tracked headphones. Work is currently conducted using Max/MSP and EASE, though other options will be considered. An understanding of room acoustics and architectural construction methods would be helpful. The Specialist Modelling Group is a research and development consultancy within the architecture firm Foster+Partners. The group's role is to research and develop tools and methodologies to support and refine the design process. They directly support projects by modelling, coding, analysing and visualising complex problems. The group has long term research projects with universities and other companies and is heavily involved in many design competitions. They are now stepping up their efforts to integrate environmental and engineering analysis with their design tools. The group is involved in many projects, from urban master planning to furniture design. They are seeking an acoustician to contribute to a wide variety of research and architectural design projects. Current research in acoustics includes virtual and augmented reality presentations, wave based and geometric acoustic simulation techniques, acoustic visualization, spatial microphone array measurements, active noise cancellation, and directional loudspeaker technologies. Candidates with experience in automotive or aeronautic acoustics, sound design, architectural acoustic consulting, gaming, interactivity, or user experience are all welcome to apply. Excellent presentation skills are essential. Software experience with Max/Msp, acoustic simulation packages (CATT, EASE), Unity 3d, Rhinoceros 3d, Grasshopper and coding skills in Matlab,C#,or Python are helpful.
