BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE Composer and lyricist Irving Caesar was born on July 4, 1895 in New York s Lower East Side of Manhattan. In 1915, in answer to a newspaper ad, he was hired as stenographer and secretary on Henry Ford s 1915-1916 Peace Expedition. He died at age 101 in New York. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The collection is organized into five series. The Biographical series, 1915 and undated, consists of one folder of photographs and a passport, ca. 1915. The Correspondence series, 1915-1920, primarily outgoing between the years 1917 and 1918, documents Caesar s strong interest in peace related activities. The Collected Material series, 1915 and undated, includes a scattering of Peace Ship printed items, passenger biographies, and a press release written for the 25 th anniversary of the expedition. The Writings series is divided into two subseries, Paper and Microfilm. Writings include portions of Caesar s diary, speeches, resolutions, and editorial pieces. Most of the writings are undated.
